There is one scent that speaks to me. Always has, always will. Patchouli. Not a "twiggy" patchouli, a faintly sweet patchouli. Do any of the AL fragrances smell like my "heaven-scent"? Or, does anyone have any recommendations? You would be surprised how hard it is to find!

I have a couple of Kristen's scents, but I can't recall that any of them smelled like patchouli -- which by the way smells terrible on me until 24 hours later. You know, it's a body chemistry thing.

If none of Kristen's scents have patchouli, then you might want to check out a sniffer blog like this http://perfumesmellinthings.blogspot.com/ - these kinds of blogs can give you can idea of scent from the vantage point of a professional sniffer --which I find just fascinating... imagine SNIFFING for a living... mmmmmm!!! Not that I would recommend JUST ONE sniffer blog, either, it's good to get a variety of opinions.

At any rate, Kristen has enuf experience with aromatherapy that she should be able to give you some good info......

Send an email to Kristen and ask her to consider using patchouli in her next perfume.
Until then, make your own! Buy the essential oil online or at your local whole foods market and mix it with a perfume base or you can buy denatured alcohol at the drugstore.
Pinky, I have never heard of a sniffer blog before. That is so unique!

If you go to www.basenotes.com and scroll down, you'll see a search block. Type in "patchouli" and you get many, many results. I did it and here's a link to my search -- I hope you can pull it up.

O.o! There are so many types of Patchouli..... There's:

East Indian Patchouli - very rich and dark

Indian Jaipur Patchouli - not as rich

Indian Patchouli - sweet, rich, earthy

Singapore Patchouli - not as heavy

Sweet & Dark Patchouli - very mellow (great to wear)

Temple Patchouli - very dry

Tunisian Patchouli - this is the sweetest and is for fragrance use ONLY

Soooooo..... once you find someplace to buy your Patchouli, make sure you use the right descriptors to get exactly what you are looking for.

mmmmm, patchouli, my signature scent. i love it. the kind i wear is sweet but also extremely earthy & dark. it is absolutely heavenly. i wear it straight or with some mango/peach scented oil. i get compliments every time i leave the house. people just love to sniff me, lol! oh, except my parents. they absolutely hate it. i guess it's a good thing they never see me.

O.o, I forgot to mention that most people who prefer Patchouli also seem to have an affinity for Sandalwood and other "incense-like" scents. I love, love, love Sandalwood! I often wear a blend called Body Armor from Eva at Down to Earth to help protect myself from negative energy. It's her trade secret combo, but it has a distictive sandalwood undertone and is very earthy.

very true.... although for some reason sandlewood gives me a headache. i don't like it much at all straight but if it's toned down by mixing it with other scents (i esp like it with something peachy... not too sweet though).

oh how i love my incense though. my absolute favorite is "carmen miranda's hat". so yummy!!! but hard to find. i usually just burn white sage. Cloud 9 down to earth has some lovely oils! i haven't bought anything from them in a long time. it's about time i spoil myself a little and buy some new goodies! Wink

O.o, yes... Bergamot is lovely! I use it in my aromatherapy massages. It's one of those scents that both women and men find equally relaxing. Bergamot is made from orange blossoms and is simply divine!

Nadja, your patchouli scent sounds wonderful. Where do you get it? I sniff and sniff whenever I get near a store that sells scented oils and fragrances, but can't find one that isn't too floral or too "twiggy".

What would you combine with a harsh patchouli to get the slightly sweeter scent? I'm hopeless at discerning scents, although I have a good sense of smell. Odors to me are either "good" or "not good".
