So I have this thing with change. I need it. A lot! I change my hair colour constantly, and right now I'm in a bit of a makeup rut. I want to actually improve my drab looks, rather than let them be. I basically use my mineral makeup everyday, and that's it. I tried playing a bit today, but I need more. Some suggestions, and ispiration would be adored, girls! Wink

Here's some pics to help you out.

w/ flash

w/ a bit of flash

w/ no flash

I'm wearing a bit of V 1N and V 00. Mutiny all over lid, Pyro until crease, and Tarnish smudged as a liner. A bit of Wizard Gold under the brow as well.
Corset on cheeks, and a small dab of Pinafore on lips.

Also, my eyes can go really blue, or really grey, how can I bring out the grey more? I love the look.

Thanks in advance to all you lovely ladies.

Just saying hi! I don't know much about blue eyes, but girl1der and girl_geek should be able to help you out with that one.

I have similar eyes in terms of color! I would not suggest using the warm toned shades you chose to bring out the gray, they'll generally bring out blue. Blue can go either way, but it can often bring out the gray in many people. Your hair looks wonderful, and you are not at all drab! What sort of fashion style do you tend to go for? If you tend to go for a more dramatic look, you can use more dramatic makeup and still look fine. However, bright colors always pop! Red hair will also bring out the blue in your eyes. Using cooler toned shades might bring out the blue, or it might bring out the gray. Tea(The color from the OL collection.) really works well to bring out the gray in my eyes! I'm also very curious as to know what colors help gray eyes look more gray! My eyes are a bit lighter than yours though.

Well, the fool-proof way to bring out the blue in your eyes is to wear eyeshadow colors that contrast with (are on the opposite side of the color wheel from) blue. Your very best colors may also depend on your skintone, but since you're pretty neutral you can probably pull off a lot of shades Wink Some good contrasting colors: Anything with orange undertones (coppers, bronzes, peaches, etc.), reds or red undertones (red-browns, burgundies), pinks, golds, yellows, browns, taupes.

The easiest way to make my blue eyes shift more grey is to wear a bright blue shadow or liner -- if the makeup is brighter than my eye color, then my eyes look grey in comparison!

My eyes can also shift green, do yours do that? I've found that purples and green-teals (like Lucky) tend to make them look more green. Some cool blue shades that aren't too bright also make my eyes look green, since the shadow is "more blue" than my eyes so my eyes look green in comparison! (E.g. Dolphin is a good example.)

Hmm, so I thought a/b this some more. My eyes are a warm toned green. Warm greens bring out the green in my eyes more than cool greens. Anyways, this leads me to think that a turquoise shadow might make your eyes look more grey.

Yes, blue-turquoise (like Aqua Nightmare) tends to make my eyes look more grey -- same theory as the bright blue shadow I mentioned above Smile

I'd try Isadora and Nanette lustres.

Thanks for all of your help.

girl_geek, I used to think my eyes turned green, as they have yellow close to the pupil, but really, I never see the turn anymore. Actually in some lighting, I can see tinges of violet. Rarely, of course. Maybe a bright blue liner is just what I need?

Staci, I am very eclectic in my fashion. It's a bit of a mix between feminine, modern, vintage, bright (love brights), delicate colours, with some darks thrown in. I'll look into giving Tea a try.

I think that I'm a Spring, in the seasons thing, but I can never be sure. I always find myself being pulled from all directions. Confused

Anyone have any insight to help me figure that one out?

Search "color season" in the forum. There are many discusions and links to quizes. I myself have given up on classification. Bridget's discussions of clear/muted, high contras/low contrast, warm/cool are very helpful.

Ah, if you're not afraid to try bright shades, do so! If you're a little nervous in the color, try it as an eyeliner. Bright blue sometimes makes my eyes look more blue, but it can also sometimes look gray. It depends on the shade of blue. Aqua nightmare actually makes my eyes look very blue, along with agentorange(topped with Dolly blush.) and sunshine. It thus appears that warm shades, due to their contrast with the blue seems to help bring out blue, so feel free to try a cooler blue shade. I also like how Tapestry+Bluebell+Fume made my eyes look gray. They're all sorta grayish whiteish cool shades, so if that's any help. Isabella also helps my eyes look gray. A clear cool black eyeliner can help a bit too. Ebony if you like to line with powder, or Whole Foods has a nice mineral stick if you prefer that method of application. It's the one in a coppery brown container. Ice matte has a similar effect. I suggest trying a lot of cooler shades, it might help.

NotUrTypicalChick, thanks for the kind words, you're quite gorgeous yourself, quite striking!

horseloverSmile, thanks for the suggestions, but really I've looked at it all. I've tried countless quizzes and researched it online for years, and I'm not much closer to figuring out my season. I dunno
I just keep wanting to answer yes to everything!

Staci, you're right, I have found that blues and black make my eyes appear more grey, but sometimes black eyeliner is just too much for a day look for me. I know that a thin, dry line of moonagedaydream makes my eyes bluer, I guess now I just have to find one to emphasize the grey...
Thanx

Well, if moonagedaydream makes them look bluer, then I wouldn't use the turquoise/teals that I suggested. Have you tried a purpley blue like Staci suggested? I would second trying out Isabella.

Yeah, so I think purple blue is the way to go.

You could mix violette and wisteria matte or use lavande PH, or imperial opulent lustre for the light color, and try a mix of bluemonday and blueorchid rocks! or use destinationunknown rocks! for the darker color. Also you should try out the isabella and lillith lustres. I am sure there are more purpley blues, but I'll stop there Smile

Is this your natural hair color? It's pretty!

A few little tidbits on the color analysis thing if you want to read further....

First, I'll assume you already understand the concepts of warm vs cool, muted vs clear, and high vs low contrast. Bridget has the best explanations I've ever read if you want to brush up on it:

http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...1008203?r=7621008203

This post explains how to wear colors opposite of your undertones, using the example of a violet lip with yellow undertones. This thread also explains how yellow undertones can be either warm or cool -- I think this is one thing that confuses a lot of people, many people assume that all yellow undertones must be warm but that's not the case:

http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...071041473#9071041473

Finally, remember to think of it as a gradient instead of an either/or. You don't have to be warm OR cool, you might be neutral, or neutral-warm (slightly warm), etc.! Likewise you can be slightly muted, or medium contrast, or whatever. Once you figure out how you rank on these three scales, then you can figure out what colors look best on you Smile Your best colors will match 2 or 3 of these characteristics (e.g. I'm warm, clear, and low contrast so likewise my best colors are warm, clear, and light to medium depth), although as the above link explains you can also wear contrasting colors for more drama! You may also find that one of these three characteristics is more dominant than the others -- e.g. I'm very clear, and leaning towards warm but not super-warm. So I can pull off some cool colors if they are fairly clear, but I don't look good in ANY really muted colors regardless of whether they're warm or cool!

Finally, here are some good color systems with more than just the four seasons. Donna Fujii separates each of the four seasons into two subtypes, a high contrast and a low contrast:

http://www.donnafujii.com/stylespa/index.html

In this thread some people discussed how they feel Donna Fujii's system is more accurate than the traditional four season system:

http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...15106531?r=815106531

There's also a common system where each season is broken into 3 subtypes, not sure if this system has a name though. Here is a good description of the subtypes (plus I find this webpage for "recovering goths" humorous, lol):

http://galadarling.com/advice/...for-recovering-goths

And a quiz that uses the same system:

http://www.stylemakeovers.com/colorquiz.html

OK, that post ended up being longer than I thought, but I think color analysis is fun so I hope these links help you out!

P.S. your eyes are going to look more blue due to your coppery hair. Good work on the links, girl_geek. We really need to consolidate all that stuff...

Just wanted to drop in and say that you are gorgeous! I love your hair. Smile You might want to try a sample of Aqua Nightmare eyeshadow from the Gothic Lolita collection if you like brights.

Thanks girl_geek!
It's so sweet of you to compile these all together for me. I've read some and I still don't really know which season I am. I know that I'm neutral on the cool/warm scale, and in between on the muted/bright. I think the contrast depends on my hair colour at the time....
I guess I'm just a pretty medium person then?

horselover, oh my! Do I ever wish my hair was naturally red! I've been in love with it for years, so I just try to fake it myself. Many think I'm naturally a redhead, and I get told that it suits my personality. Whenever I go back to red, I feel much more alive, so I guess it works! Wink There's only that one for me with the red hair. I love my eyes to look grey, but the copper just draws out the blue. Frown

Ella, thanks so much! That's incredibly kind of you to say. I'll look into the Aqua Nightmare. Smile

You are a stunning natural beauty!
I don't think you have a 'drab' bone in your body!! Wink
The ladies have given lots of advice- so I won't really add too much!

Definately try out some purples! And I think that you would look lovely in warm neutrals like- Fox, Suede, Silk Stockings, Persian Kitten...As for lippies- I think that Loveonyourside, Noreservations, Gossamer, Coquette, Wallflower, and Nuance would look awesome with your hair and coloring!

I too am a non-natural redhead- but I really believe that red hair really fits me better too! People are shocked when they find out I'm not a natural redhead! Even my brother-in-law didn't figure it out until I had been married for 3 years!

Can't wait to see more of your lovely face!
SmileNaomi
