Tomorrow I'm going to be doing my daughter and 3 friend's makeup for prom. I'm so excited.

I've got all my supplies ready, and my camera!
Anyone done several teen's makeup for a big event before? I'm hoping for a real exciting time.

I've worked on my daughter's makeup this week, and last week we did one of the girls.
None of them are big makeup wearers, but they are excited to be done for the big night.

I've got my brush cleaner, q tips, cotton balls. Of course my sample binder and all my goodies. They are meeting up at one of the other homes for dressing makeup and then dinner before they leave. So I've got to travel with my Aromaleigh bag!!! Can anyone think of anything I might be forgetting.

I'm so excited to play with new faces. I had a great time doing her friend last week, who right away picked out the perfect color of eyeshadow. (14K and smokescreen! She looked incredible.) I ordered a bunch of darker foundation samples, so I'll have to be winging it on foundation.
They are so excited about the gel eyeliner that stays on all night. They have a PTA sponsored after party that goes til 6 a.m.!!!

(They've been doing that for several years to keep them from having other after parties, or from driving.)
Any last minute hints would be greatly appreciated.
Kathy

Kathy, sounds like you're ready to go! It's so sweet of you to do this for your daughter's friends....not many moms bother to take the time to help their daughters learn about makeup!!

Just make sure that camera battery is fully charged!

From one Kathy to another Smile Time goes fast and they are anxious and full of adrenalin and they feed off of each others energy....just a little fair warning. Try to stay calm even when they are not. I don't use the same brushes on each of the girls so end up using nearly every one I own. Sponge eyeshadow applicators are so handy and cheap and do a good job.
I bring along my Nutrogena Dry Touch Sunscreen in case they haven't moisturized because I know how it gives a good base for the foundation even though they may not be going into the sun. (just a thought if you have some, but at least have a moisturizer because the girls might not think of it and the foundation goes on so much more even).
I enjoy putting just a lightest, lightest dusting of Illusion Perle Powder all over the face before the foundation to give an extra soft glow for pictures.
If you are doing the complete makeup where the girls do not bring their own mascara and lipstick, I use disposable mascara wands from Sally's so there is no cross- contaminating when using only one mascara and have used the eyeshadow sponge applicators for lipstick. Don't let them double dip their wand into your mascara, though!
For any of the girls you have already color selected, make a detailed list of what you used on them and in what order. Even though I have done this several times I find this helpful to keep me on task when the girls are having so much fun discussing what they hope the night will be like and any other distractions.
Most of all.....have a blast!!! These are times to cherish!! Kathy

What fun! I've not done this myself, but would really really love to.

I'd also have on hand face wipes or baby wipes to quickly remove a stray smudge or make a color correction, a spritz bottle with water, one with alcohol as well (sanitize lipsticks, tweezers, etc). Moisturizer and eye cream of some sort, heavy duty concealer to eliminate a wayward last minute spot, eye drops (use on a blemish to take the red out). Large hair clips and tissues to gently pin back hair from the face without messing up a style or leaving a dent, a cape or towel or even just a smock or old button front shirt to protect their dresses from fallout.

Perles ae beautiful on shoulders and collarbones and ears, too!

Have fun!

-b.

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Yes, Bridget, I do use all of the things you stated (and you haven't done this before!? Wink) but was trying to stretch my memory and write when I should have been in bed last night Yawn.
I do their makeup before they get dressed so I don't drap anything over them but that is a great suggestion. And for weddings, I tell you, it not only is makeup but an emergency kit for anything that can go wrong just in case the mother of the bride our maid of honor forgets.
I have yet to see my nieces prom pics...she told me about them, though Smile.
It cracks me up that the posts are EST and I look like I am up all night here on the west coast. Sheesh. Kathy

I had fun tonight doing the makeup. Thanks for all the helpful ideas.
Only ended up doing one other girl, besides my daughter. Frown
We'd already practiced last week, and she liked what she came up with. So, no surprises.

I thought they looked great. Loved the Perle powders on them. They just glowed.

My daughter is the redhead. We went with sophie on the lids, cocobean in the crease. Moon on the brow bone. Sinisterrouge on cheeks. Black out gel liner. Couldn't even get her in any lipcolor. Arrrrrr. She's a blackliner and mascara and nothing else girl, for her everyday look. I was really pushing it getting a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of blush on her cheeks. (Which, I must say, you can get with rocks blushes.)

Photobucket

Her friend with gold dress is the one I had fun with, also. Black out gel also, and 14K on lids. Smokescreen for a very slight smokey eye and crease. Again, moon on the brow bone. Also went with sinisterouge. Didn't know what do try on such wonderful dark skin. I'm used to my pale skin!! Played with several perle powders for face glow. They both glowed wonderfully.

I would have loved to have done all the girl's makeup. It probably would have been pretty stressful. The two of them were stressed enough. I should be happy with what I did!

Photobucket
We had a good evening. Ahhh. She's growing up.

I LOVE prom pictures!! The girls are all so adorable (the guys aren't bad, either Smile). You did a great job on the makeup. I have not had the pleasure to do makeup on dark skin either. I pay close attention to some ladies on T.V. as to what colors they use to accentuate their eyes and features just in case some day I get the opportunity.
At least you got to do two faces after all that planning. I ran into a young lady this week standing in line at the store and she remembered me doing her makeup about 5 years ago with my two nieces (twins) for their prom. I remember that night her nearly in tears as I did her makeup because she had such low self esteem and I complimented her beautiful features as we got ready. Little did I know until my sister talked to me after they left for the dance that this girl didn't have a close relationship with her mom and she needed the attention. You never know what acts of kindness run so deep. This thread and seeing her brought back the memories of how happy she looked and probably felt more that she fit in with the other girls being fussed over like a princess. Kathy

They all look gorgeous!!! You did a great job, not to mention they are all so lovely to begin with. I think the sinisterouge flatters the girl in the gold dress, but since you said you have no idea what to try with dark skin...you should try a shimmery golden peachy pink sometime to give a bronzed, summery look. Pomegranate PR is another shade that's really nice on tanned skin. Just throwing ideas out there since you said you had none. The sinisterouge was truly a good choice.

Coloring: 1.5 level skin with yellow undertones, hazel eyes, medium golden/reddish brown hair color. Surprisingly, I look best in neutral and cool-toned makeup. Love greys and pinks. Current Favorites: Magnetism gel liner, Rocks! Rouge in Breathless, Pinafore Color Cream, Adelaide EDT, Delicate Vanilla Bean Lipbalm, Ondberry and Maylily Spring Solstice!

Thanks for looking.
Aren't all prom pics so sweet. They make you smile.

Yes, the peachey tones are good on dark skin. I should have thought of that. I can't wear them well. I should have known! Smile

A little attention and pampering from a friend's mom can really make a HUGE impact, as you have well seen.

Kathy, what a wonderful thing to do. Everyone looked great, and I'm sure the girls felt super confident!!

I love her dress! It is my favorite out of the bunch...and the one that I think compliments the girl the best.
