Okay. I'm going to be making a huge order from AL here soon, and I want to include a bunch of samples in that order.

However, I am really intimidated by the number of different eyeshadows, blushes, and lippies that are available on this site. I don't even know where to start! So I was hoping you ladies could give me some more suggestions. I need suggestions for lid colours, crease colours, and highlight colours, as well as suggestions for lippies and blushes.

Here I am again without makeup:

And here is a close-up of my eyes:

There have been some suggestions so far. They are: Tapestry, StillinHollywood, blackcelebrations, and Torment.

I'm already thinking I am going to order mini-jars of the Goth Lolita Blushes. Would it be better for me to just go ahead and order the full size blushes? How big is the mini-jar? I'm also going to buy the whole range of Goth Loli lippies.

I'm also thinking about buying Juliette? That's the one that is a darker version of Melancholia, right? I love dark lips, and I love doing my eyes up with rich, dark colours (though I have been known to do neutral eyes, especially if I am wearing a particularly dark lip - don't want to look like a clown after all!

So yeah, if anyone can suggest things I should order as samples, I would love that because I feel completely lost and frustrated.

Thanks ladies!

P.S. - Do I really need to try Voile when I like the feel of Glissade?

P.P.S. - Right now I have a sample of Cobalt and Alchemy.

GET SAMPLES. You'll get quite a few uses out of them, especially blushes/rouges. You can always go back and buy mini jars or fullsizes later. You'll be able to get more colors for the same amount of money, and if it turns out something's not for you, then you won't feel like you've wasted your money.

Same with shadows, get samples, then put fullsizes on your wishlist. The Shop by Color section might be the best place to start. Get your favorite colors, some neutrals, and toss in a couple of totally unexpected shades just for the heck of it. Remember you have to swipe them on your skin before deciding if you like the color.....sometimes they look very different on.

For eyeshadows, opposites on the color wheel will make your eyes pop. If you're between green & blue, you'll have lots more to play with. Reds, burgundies, purples - will all make them look great.

Hi Anna,

I haven't found any of the AL lippies to be very dark. Smitten is a neat color. It isn't exactly dark, but it is purpley and opaque if you apply it thickly. Here is a pic of me wearing it:

http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...01061831/m/540109662

Fling would be the next darkest color I have tried. Here is a link to some lippie swatches that I did:

http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...63009936/m/609107852

And here are some pics of me wearing some of the lippies sheerly. You can see that Vivid and Fling are the darkest:
http://aromaleighaficionadas.i...9936/m/585109481/p/1

Vivid is bright red with a slight amount of pink. Lollipop is pure red shimmer in a clear base.

I definitely recommend sampling like Cin said. This is Cin's idea, but she suggested mixing StillinHollywood with a clear gloss. It makes an amazing dark purple. You can either apply clear gloss and then pat minerals on top, or buy some clear lipgloss and pour the minerals into the lipgloss container and then stir. (Make sure that the lipgloss doesn't contain mineral oil, most cheap ones do, if it contains mineral oil it won't be thick enough for the minerals to apply evenly)

Here is a post about what pigments are lip safe. It is stated in the pure hue descriptions what is and isn't lip safe.

As for eyeshadows, I would say go for more muted colors unless they are very dark. A more muted color would have more beige or black in it. So muted greens would be loden pure frost, moss matte, or arbor PH would be fine b.c. it is dark. I would use greens like rocks! greenhell or venom sparingly.

You can go to the shop by color feature and check out all the black/dark shadows. Those come in almost every color!

P.S. these shadow rec.s are just personal taste somewhat and it is hard to know what will look good on someone. So I do recommend getting a couple samples of "scary" colors. It will only cost a couple bucks, and you might be pleasantly surprised!

Definitely sample and take advantage of the Shop by Color feature!

I could definitely see you in a rich, deep turquoise like moonagedaydream or a deep purple like Purple Princess or Desire. And just for fun, I'd love to see you try lining those beautiful eyes of yours with Aqua Nightmare + sealant! It might look like a scary-bright, but I think it would be an unexpected "pop" of color.

Odette, Fiona, and Oyster are my favorite highlight shades. Also check out the "Ethereal" Pure Hues-- Miss K put them together in a kit. Here's a link for reference "Ethereal" Pure Hue Glimmer Gift Pack. These make beautiful highlighter too.

Definitely sample! Most of the blushes (especially the Gothic Lolita and Rocks blushes) are very pigmented and just a sample will last you a very long time!

Are there any particular color families that you're interested in, or are you open to *any* suggestions? Smile

I'm not sure if all of these colors fit your style, but in general, to make eyes really pop it's easiest to use contrasting colors (colors on the opposite side of the color wheel from your eye color). Now it's certainly possible to look great in other colors, but these are easier, foolproof colors Smile Since your eyes are green-blue you could do any of these shades:

For blue eyes, try anything with an orange undertone (peaches, coppers, bronzes), any shade of brown or taupe, pinks, reds/burgundies, and golds. Of course, your skintone plays a role too -- cool skintones would find taupes and pinks easier to wear, warm skintones may prefer the orange-y and gold colors.

For green eyes, purples really make them pop! Pinks and reds/burgundies are also great colors.

Since you have a fairly high-contrast look (pale skin with fairly dark hair) you could probably pull off some dark or bright colors if you prefer; but with your light eyes and skin you'd also look great in softer colors!

Any color families you'd like recommendations for (e.g. maybe you'd like to try some burgundies but are not interested in bronzes), or are you really open to anything?

I'm not very helpful on dark lippies .... I only wear lighter, MLBB ("my lips but better") type shades Smile

A useful trick is to place an all-sample order and get free shipping PLUS free samples. Wait probably less than a week to receive it, then give yourself some time to play with colors and pinpoint some favorites and rule out some duds. Then place your full-size order. The shipping cost will be practically canceled out by the free samples in the first order!

Or so I tell myself... Wink

I can tell you that after two months of wearing Aromaleigh samples every day, only a couple of colors are coming anywhere close to running out and I've got full sizes of those now. Smile The rest I'm still playing with! Other than that though I'm not a whole lot of use. Have fun browsing the FOTD for colors and looks you think you'd like!

My first thought was "Bete Noires". They have such a range of colour coming through in each shadow.

Another tip: I hardly ever place one gigantic order any more.I set a certain amount aside then I buy according to the sales that go up each week. Also don't forget that their is a new Limited Edition collection coming out soon.I believe in about 2 weeks.NOt 100% sure though. I always sample the entire collection even if I think I will not like a colour because you may surprise yourself. And after all they're not coming back!

Same here for my 2 orders (one sample and one fullsize). Hopefully just an oversight and not a new practice. Wink

Hey there. I'm pretty new too so I def say do a huge sample order and play, play, play.

I'm wearing blankgeneration lippie today and for some reason, I think you might like it too. It's not dark, but it's sheer wash of purple on me and it would look great with some of those purple shadows already suggested.

Again, I'm a newb so I don't know much about suggesting colors for others - just know what I like. Have fun!! Can't wait to see what you order.

Just to give you an idea: I have a blush mini-jar that I've been using on average about 3 times per week for a year. It doesn't look like I'll need to order more for quite a while yet. You only need a touch, since they really are very highly pigmented.

I'd also recommend a fiber optic brush to make it easier to avoid that "clown" look.

That's true, my mini jar of Nectar lasted about 3 years I think, with pretty regular use (usually a few times a week)! And since it's pretty light, I even applied it more heavily than I do my other blushes Smile

Whereas something like Rocks blushes, which I apply VERY lightly, the samples have lasted me for months and I haven't ordered any full sizes (but I also don't wear them quite as often as Nectar)!

I probably should have been more open about what colours I like because I think I just threw everyone I asked into a feeling of not knowing what to choose or suggest, which is the same feeling I am having myself. My favorite colours are black, purple, and green, so I tend to choose variations on those colours. Some of you have suggested wines and burgundies, which I think would look nice. I'm definitely willing to open up to putting other colours in my collection.

I'm about to make a huge order from AL, but it isn't going to include eyeshadow samples just yet. There are some sale items I want to get and I don't think I will have decided on eyeshadows before I can make that order. However, when I am getting ready to order samples, I am looking at spending anywhere from $60 to $80 depending on what my budget is looking like. So I might need help narrowing things down then. In the meantime, I will start searching the FOTDs and the shopping by colour tool. It's still really overwhelming for someone like myself who generally only uses black eyeliner and whatever is in the Cover Girl and Maybelline eyeshadow palettes I have (the colours in the palettes are chosen for me). It seems it is much easier to have colours chosen for me than to have to choose them myself. I feel like I lack the creativity all you ladies seem to have.

Yeah, once I ordered 1N and 2N and determined that my best match was to mix them, I mixed them in this little tin - that was about a month ago, and I still have plenty left. I ordered my full sizes of 1N and 2N, mixed them, and now I haven't even needed to use them yet, LOL! I'll have foundation for a good long while. But you do get enough in the sample bags to have it last for you for at least a couple of weeks, depending on how much you use.
