I'll play - now, I don't own all the lustres, but I have sampled nearly all of them.

Pandora, Persephone and Lulu, Diamonda or Lulu or Kiki.

Daphne, Isabella or Nanette and Tanaquil or Severina.

Chloe, Amelie, Olivia or Circe

Isadora, Nanette, Odette

Lulu, Nico, Lorelei

Penelope, Cosette, Sophie

Oh, the list is infinite.

Some possible "guidelines" for "good" (read easy to wear) combos:

Take 1 light neutral, one medium neutral, and one bright

3 shades and tints of the "same" color (like Isadora, Celeste and Fiona)

2 different values of the same color (like Persephone and Pandora, or Chloe and Amelie, or Cosette and Lulu) and pair with a netural like Odette, Fiona, Sophie, etc.)

Two neutrals, one light, one medium, plus one "serious" color (either dark or saturated) is super beautiful, too.

If you fall in love with the looks of a "serious" color, like Tanaquil, Lulu or Persephone, or Nico, try pairing it with a neutral or two in a contrasting finish.

Brights with neutrals, like described in Miss K's blog, are really beautiful and sophisticated. Use more of the neutral or flesh-friendly color and accent with the bright for the most classic look.

Pairing brights that exist opposite on the colorwheel, like Penelope and Nico, or Lulu and Nico, or Lulu and Tanaquil is striking, but can be a level of drama that requires the more traditional amongst us to let our eyes adjust a little bit. Still pretty, but more of a statment than a neutral+bright combo.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you *really* want a particular finish (matte, satin, frost, sparkle, lustre) to take center stage, pair it with other finishes, particularly matte. The contrast will highlight the opposite finish beautifully.

So, you could use Cupid, Eros and Lulu, with Lulu as the POP color, for maximum effect. All similar in base color, but different intensities and finishes.

They are great fun, these lustres, aren't they?

-b.

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Daphne or Sophie all over
Circe in the V, or on the orb of the lid
Chole or Cossette or Edie just over the crease.

sub for Circe would be Nannette (or mix Nan with Brianna for a lovely color), or Brianna, or Severina.

But I like soooo many lusters that I switch things around a lot .

62 yr old, light complected, rosacea -sensitive skin, fading auburn hair, hazel eyed, lightly freckled,
MMU= 2 Y/L + a tad of 2 Pink Glissade.
Topped with an Illuminator/juane,verte,blue coquille powders, and Splendor and Allure Perle powders mix for finishing powder.Leaves a soft ,velvety finish, natural look - not a dry skin/ aged looked

Bridget, funny you should mention Penelope and Nico because when I was at Walmart today I went thru the makeup section (cause I like to look at the displays) and the new Rimmel display shows their spokesmodel, Kate Moss, wearing what I would definitely describe in AL colors as Nico on the outer half of the eye and Penelope on the inner half. I would have never thought of those two colors together, especially with the lighter color in the outer eye area. It looked fabulous and not too over-the-top at all.

What wonderful ideas here in this thread. Love
it! I'm definitely taking notes.

Loida, how cool is that? Like you, I never would have thought to put the lighter (nico) on the outer half of the eye, for fear it might make the wearere look cross=eyed. But then again, Kate Moss (isn't that the model spokesperson face for Rimmel?) does have quite wide set eyes. But the opposites on the colorwheel can be very striking and/or dramatic. It would be a great look for you, I think, too, with your beautiful facial proportions!

(ps - i also think Nico and Lulu would be gorgeous!! Blend in a bit of Sophie or even Circe to soften the colors, if the burgundy and saffron seem "too much" at first.)

(pps - I'm tryin to do up a bunch of new spring "faces" on paper for my shop, and my line feels so incredibly limited compared to Aromaleigh! I keep wanting to design a face around a hot pink eye, or one with a clear true blue, or saffron, burgundy, orange, whatever. But I can't use those glorious shades in my shop. But you can bet I mention them to my ladies when they come in? We're so lucky ot have such an amazing array of colors - with Aromaleigh, we can easily recreate ANY look we see on any magazine page!)

Oooh, even more awesome ideas, Bridget! (Yes, Kate Moss is Rimmel's model spokesperson.)

I'm going to try that Penelope/Nico 'look' tomorrow.

The old me used to think I needed that particular color from that particular line to achieve that particular 'look.' I feel soooo freed from that since I found AL because now I just try to match up an AL color to a color I see in a magazine or display, etc...

Oh I've been swooning for a very long time now over many of these lustres as I've been sitting on my itchy order clicker fingers. All this discussion of unusually beautiful pairings only further ups my quest to try them all!
I've gotta figure a way to stash some extra dough on the side this month, there is so much I wanna try on. Go figure I leave for a couple of months and there's so many new things I'm once again pinning for. Lustres, newer perles, new fragrances, the fab Cmas collection and the oh so sweet 2007 Valentine's set.

No to go drool in my sleep over all the luscious colors and scents!!!!
MMMmmmmmmmm.........zzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZ
Goodnight!!! Wink Ella

Classic pale Ivory with freckles & pink flush tones. Now that I'm gradually graying, my hair color is constantly evolving. Currently a dark golden brunette (think a darker Mocha with some lighter golden brown highlights). Blue/Grey Eyes with flecking of brown, gold & khaki in the iris.

With fall finally settling in here, I'm about a 2 level Y(3)/L(1) at the moment, wearing more of the neutral tones-warmer neutral tones. In my natural state, I'm a true Winter from CMB. But I can easily get away mixing things up seasonally. White Gold/Platinum/Silver for jewelry, but can (and do) easily wear copper, rose gold and antiqued gold tones.

Wow! this doesn't make my descision making any easier, but it certainly is a wealth of info and I think eventually I want to try it all!! I love the guidelines, B! I always take a look at my e/s colors in the morning and sometimes I find myself clueless or overwhelmed at what to put together, I usually stick to things in the same color family but I know there are combos out there that would look very nice that I wouldn't even think of (I am going to put Nico in my cart this time!)
Thanks to everyone for their ideas! Smile
Melissa

When I read the topic, I just thought "my favorite combo is golds and pinks together," and there are several beautiful golds and pinks in the lustres collections. I like a soft gold wash all over, medium pink on the lid and v, and highlight with super pink like Ophelia or pale gold like Daphne. Make sure to blend blend blend and you'll look like a gorgeous sunset!

Coloring: 1.5 level skin with yellow undertones, hazel eyes, medium golden/reddish brown hair color. Surprisingly, I look best in neutral and cool-toned makeup. Love greys and pinks. Current Favorites: Magnetism gel liner, Rocks! Rouge in Breathless, Pinafore Color Cream, Adelaide EDT, Delicate Vanilla Bean Lipbalm, Ondberry and Maylily Spring Solstice!

I have fallen in love with Persephone. Seems to be a perfect contrast color to bring out the green in my hazel eyes. I use it in the V area and have tried so many combinations of Lustres with it and other eyeshadow finishes. Persephone is quite the chameleon color for me. Kathy

56 yrs. young, brown hair, hazel eyes, sensitive skin. MMU- 3Yl/2yl blend of G. and V. with pinch of G. 2PL or 3WL thrown in.

This sounds really nice, Jessica, I love warm brights! I may do some experimenting with golds and pinks, makes me feel good just thinking about it! Cloud 9

Persephone...that looks like a good "V" color or liner!

I tried Daphne and really liked it, maybe it is time for a f/s.

Another awesome thread!! Lustres are probably my favorite AL eye shadow.

After my sample of Isabella arrived today, I have a new favorite combo!! Sophie all over, Isabella in crease and V, Amelie as brow highlight Smile

Nico all over with Persephone in the crease/V is great for me...but I'm 3 or 4N and the Nico doesn't show bright on me...very subtle.

I love Chloe and Olivia for my blue eyes. Chloe all over with a dark liner is simple and sweet. I will even sometimes do Olivia all over for a more dramatic and very autumn-y look that makes my blue eyes pop.

For a quick go-to look, I'll do Sophie or Fiona all over, and whatever Lustre (or Satin Petal or Frost or even Matte) I'm in the mood for in the crease/V. Can't go wrong with that combo.

~Meg in Georgia~
41 yo, brunette with slight auburn highlights, dark blue eyes, and very neutral skin (cooler in the winter/warmer in the summer), 3N Voile straight up!

I am an Aromaleigh Perle Powder Addict, and in love with the Lustres and Pure Hues too.

BTW, Odette is my go-to E/S when I'm dong a super quick face. Love the Lustres! Like a few other folks. I'd love to see some more saturated colors in the Lustre line.

For a neutral look I love Circe and Fiona, but my favorite lustres together are Penelope and Celeste. I've always loved purple and green together, maybe because my favorite flowers and purple/blue.Smile
