I was wondering if glissade causes buildup since it has the cones (dimethicone and cyclomethicone) in it. These cones are not water soluble and builds a barrier against the skin. So, in the long run, will it do any bad thing to the skin?

Saswati, I have super sensitive skin and absolutely adore the Glissade, it both looks and feels wonderful and I have never experienced any redness or irritation. And it washes off very easily, no buildup Big Grin

I've never had any problems either...in fact my skin seems to LOVE Glissade compared to other makeup/formulas.

As far as reading bad things about silicone-based ingredients, it's a good idea to learn about the sites/companies that are promoting those ideas.

Are their conclusions based on well-designed scientific studies?

Some companies/sites have ulterior motives when they start saying bad things about certain ingredients. They may carry products that don't contain those ingredients and want to convince everyone to use their products. They may have a bias against those ingredients, due to political beliefs, ethical beliefs, whatever.

If they WANT everyone to think silicones are bad, then it is pretty easy to design a scientific research study to produce the results you want.

Whenever you're reading any claims about a cosmetic ingredient, it's a good idea to do your own background research to determine what study was done to yield those results, how the study was designed, the qualifications of the people performing the study, whether the study was funded by people wanting to achieve a particular outcome, and so on.

Hi Saswati - just joining the thread, here. I am an oily girl, and have had no problem at all with the Glissade. And I am prone to blackheads naturally, but haen't had any bad reactions to the Glissade.

On the other hand, I do choose to avoid them in my hair products, because as you said they aren't water soluble and I don't use shampoo. Ever. So the 'cones don't agree with that modality for me.

But on my skin, I LOVE them - the smooth everything out, provide a nice moisture barrier, absorb oil, and offer a really elegant feel to those products I use that do contain them. And the Glissade and other products I might use wash off easily with just my regular cleanser - faoming, non foaming, or oil - just as any other product does.

I really do love my Glissade - and Voile - though!

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Bridget, question.....you don't use shampoo? What do you use? I have had nothing but trouble with my hair this past year using different shampoos from drug store to health food stores. I don't like any of them Mad I can't figure it out.

Hey, Calypso - How's your gorgeous pooch these days?

I know it sounds odd to not use shampoo, and I don't have loks or anything - just regular old Irish girl curls. But I gave up on shampoo a few years ago.

I had good luck just using gentle conditioners to cleanser my hair and scalp, occaisionally doing a baking soda solution to get rid of product buildup, then following that with a vinegar rinse. Shiny, bouncy hair!

I've also used a few different non-shampoo products. Jessicurl makes an awesome hair cleansing cream. And now I am using natural handmade superfatted soaps I buy from a few different sources online.

Good info on forsaking shampoo can be found at naturallycurly.com - do a search for "no poo" and you'll come with with good info.

Basically, I avoid anythng with sulfates in it, as they tend to overstrip my hair. I also avoid silicones in hair products (but love them for skin!!). I super condition and end up using some awesome natural products created for African American hair - I find them to be super hydrating and gentle, too.

Thank you, Bridget! I recall a while back of a thread about the no poo. I have let my hair grow a bit longer this year and have quite a bit of natural curl I didn't have since I was a kid. I will research.
Luna is driving us crazy tonight, btw. We were gone all day to my son and D-I-L's baby shower. Great fun but a bit long for Luna to entertain herself. She is HAPPY now to have her family back.

Good Evening!
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents! I've been wearing makeup for 38 plus years. I've been wearing AL for 1 year...and this 53 year old's skin has never looked better!! I will NEVER go back, look back or try anything else! The level of quality of Aromaleigh is wonderful! Love it!!

Just to let you know, after reading Bridget's comments on shampoos....I tried jessicurl and doing that "no poo" thing. Amazing! The soft "laugh lines" around my eyes are gone!!! It never occured to me that a shampoo would affect my face!!!

Enjoy the Evening!
Joanne......................!
