So I am wondering how safe glitter (polyester) is to use in lip products. I am fine using it on my eyes, cheeks, etc., but I am wondering how safe it is exactly in glosses. I mean, we do end up consuming a good amount of gloss... (and I don't usually go around eating plastic).

P.S. I am not exactly paranoid a/b wearing it on my lips every now and then, but I am thinking, say wearing it once a week.

No clue, but I pack it on at least once a week and I know I consume some of it each time. I think you just want to make sure it's cosmetics grade glitter, and not say.....craft glitter.

a couple of weeks ago I made some cupcakes for a birthday party and sprinkled some glitter on top of them. It was edible glitter for cake decorating. I got the glitter at a baking supply shop, and the guy at the counter said it was safe to use as makeup, too. It's the same really fine particles that we get here at AL. I'm guessing by association that it's not harmful if you accidentally consume it. Besides. .. It looks soo pretty hehehe

Haha, Hottie, I love how you describe it as "packing it on". MissTat, umm, I'm really sorry, but that sounds really gross if it was plastic glitter! I hope it was edible glitter in the form of being made from let's say sugar or something!

Yeah, edible glitter isn't what is for sale on AL. Edible glitter is made out of food products.

noo actually. it was real life glimmery glitter. cosmetic. yeah. the pastry shop in my town also sells mica powders for cake decorating. No one thought it was gross, though. like I said, it was very finely milled. but. real glitter it was. haha

P.S. After writing this post, I've checked out popular lip glosses (Victoria's Secret to be exact in my case) and they contain polyethylene terephthalate (cosmetic grade glitter). Hmmm, not that I am saying because an ingredient is widely used by the cosmetics industry it is necessarily safe, at least I know I have been using glitter on my lips all along without knowing it. I think a good solution would be to just not add a lot of glitter to a lip gloss meant for every day wear.

yeah, I do that sometimes. I like to add shakeitup glitter to a clear-nude lipgloss. It looks amazing Smile
