Hello to all this fine holiday season.

I've been using Pure Hues to tint my homemade lip balms and I was wondering if the lip-safe hues contain FD&C dyes? I've been contemplating giving lip balm as holiday presents this year, but a friend of mine is allergic to FD&C red dyes - all of the reds.

Does anyone know if the micas are blended with FD&C dyes?

I knew I should've printed off that ingredient list that was posted with them so long ago.

Thanks for any information!

Hi, Dana - Well, all my Pure Hues, including Zinfandel, Copper, Brocade, and some other red tones say simply "100% Pure Mica" on the label, whereas my Rocks! shades list the specific ingredients, including D&C dyes. Interestingly, Vampira, a lovely red, contains D&C orange and violet, but no red.

What I believe is that the Pure Hues did not make use of D&C dyes - they are purely mineral pigments.

I hope Kirsten will come along and confirm this or else set me straight!!

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Bridget,

Thanks for your reply. That was my guess, but the last thing I want to do is poison my friend with dyes!!

I haven't thought of looking at the Rocks! shades - good suggestion!
