Hi there, aficionadas!

I ordered three of the AL taklon brushes last night, after reading around here how great they are. I got the full sized kabuki, the small rounded brush, and the jumbo sized buffing brush (plus a bunch of new samples, but that's for another thread). My current set of brushes are BE ones, which are scratchy and they shed like anything! So I went after three of my basics to start with replacing them.

How is the best way to take care of them? A special cleanser, or shampoo? Dish detergent? I've traditionally cleaned my BE brushes with a very mild dish soap or shampoo, but does taklon require a special cleanser?

Thanks again, ladies!

I wash all my brushes with mild shampoo (I use shammpoo bars) gently press all the excess water out of them, then dry them hanging bristles down.

I wash mine with a brush cleanser (MAC, Clinique are my faves). I deep clean with water as needed, and 'spot clean' after every couple of uses. I treat my Taklon brushes the same as my natural hair brushes.

For all of my brushes... After each use, I wipe them off on a damp towel and then a dry one. About once a week I wash them with my liquid hand soap, gently squeeze the water out and stick them back in my brush holder.

You can wash brushes with baby shampoo, a mild facial cleanser, or a brush cleanser. (I use baby shampoo.)

Make sure you angle the brushes slightly downward while they dry, so the water won't dissolve the glue that holds the bristles to the brush!

I use castile soap (which can be purchased at my local target) in almond scent to wash the bottom parts of my brushes, and then I lay them on a white towel or wash cloth and angle them so that the bristles are down.

Thanks very much, everyone! I think, since I'm pretty good about keeping my old brushes clean, I'll go with the cheapest but gentlest method and pick up a very mild baby shampoo. I think that sounds like my best bet.

I do the exact same as Robyn except that I also blot them on a dry paper towel after washing with handsoap and squeezing to try to get all the last drops of water out. I worry about water dripping back down into the ferrule and destroying the glue. I suppose I could lay them flat as some others do, but I like putting them back in my brush holder Smile So far my AL taklon brushes are very hardy and show no signs of washing or wear. I also "spread" the bristles out to speed up drying time. They tend to clump together otherwise and take forever to dry.

Coloring: 1.5 level skin with yellow undertones, hazel eyes, medium golden/reddish brown hair color. Surprisingly, I look best in neutral and cool-toned makeup. Love greys and pinks. Current Favorites: Magnetism gel liner, Rocks! Rouge in Breathless, Pinafore Color Cream, Adelaide EDT, Delicate Vanilla Bean Lipbalm, Ondberry and Maylily Spring Solstice!

Great, thanks! Smile

I stopped over at Whole Foods and bought their store brand shampoo for dry hair - figured that would be more moisturizing and kinder to the bristles. A big bottle of that stuff is only about $2 or $3, so it should last me. Then I came home and gave my current old brushes a good shampooing!

Interestingly enough, if you're going to be using baby shampoo to clean your brushes, you can also use it as makeup remover. It's gentle enough on your eyes, though it feels a bit oily to me. I did that for a while Smile

That is interesting - it doesn't burn the heck out of your eyes?

The one that I bought isn't a baby shampoo - it's just a regular moisturizing shampoo. I went with that because I was already at Whole Foods, I wanted something cruelty free, and the baby shampoos over there are a *fortune*! This stuff was pretty cheap, only a couple of bucks, so I figured it would be a good option to save some money.

No, I used Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo. The jingle for it is 'no more tears,' as it's made for babies Wink So it doesn't really burn your eyes, though I did try to keep it from getting in my eyes.
