I finally treated myself to a big order. For me, this order is the holy grail for a newbie like me. I got the Travel Brush Set and the much adored flocked sponge.

My skin has gone completely haywire with all the stress. I tried using my drugstore brushes and they made my skin break out, oy!

So for now, I'm sans AL. Any suggestions on how to achieve medium-heavy coverage until my skin decides to play nice?

For medium-to-heavy coverage, I'd suggest applying foundation w/the flocked sponge (LOVE that thing!). For me, it gives a little heavier coverage than w/a brush.

I apply my foundation with the flocked sponge when I want medium coverage.

I like your signature line. I was born in the Philippines. Smile

Not washing your brushes often enough can cause breakouts (product build-up/bacteria), or not rinsing well enough (soap residue). Some people, believe it or not, are allergic to certain types of animal hair brushes! So really it could be anything, but I can see how it might be from the drugstore brushes like you said. Hopefully the better quality AL stuff will help your face calm down.

The flocked sponge works great for heavier coverage. You can also lightly spray your brush with a bit of rosewater, face setting spray, or just any filtered water before applying minerals, and that helps increase the coverage. HTH. Enjoy your new stuff brushes and sponge!

Coloring: 1.5 level skin with yellow undertones, hazel eyes, medium golden/reddish brown hair color. Surprisingly, I look best in neutral and cool-toned makeup. Love greys and pinks. Current Favorites: Magnetism gel liner, Rocks! Rouge in Breathless, Pinafore Color Cream, Adelaide EDT, Delicate Vanilla Bean Lipbalm, Ondberry and Maylily Spring Solstice!

I hope that you're able to get your skin balanced and feeling better soon. I know it sucks when your skin freaks out.

I definitely recommend synthetic brushes if you have sensitive skin and washing your brushes. I tend to wash my kabuki every other week, but the rest of my brushes get washed much more often.

Well, I've been using the AL brushes and my skin hasn't gotten irritated. So I did the "test." I brushed one part of my arm w/ my kabuki and the other section with my AL kabuki. The drugstore felt scratchier and w/in 5 minutes my arm broke out in that spot. So it got chucked, LOL!

Right now, because my skin is in a state of flux I wash my sponge and brushes daily.
