Not having a good eyeshadow brush isn't an emergency, but I'm in need of a good all-purpose face brush or two for great foundation, primer, and finishing powder applications.

I'm very tempted to buy one of the small or large fiber optic brushes because I'd like a more smooth foundation application, and I have a tendency to over apply, so buying another kabuki brush may not be in the cards for me this time around. Thank you in advance for any opinions and suggestions.

I really love the new kabuki brush.
I'm not sure a fiber optic brush would be enough coverage for foundation.
I mist my kabuki to make it a lighter application, then mist after applying.
Good luck.
Very frustrating to have your purse stolen. Grrr.

I wouldn't mind something that applies primer, foundation, and finishing powder to be kind of in the middle of these choices, but I'm rather ignorant of other choices that might be available, and I can't buy everything at once.

The Fiber Optic brushes are great for finishing powders and Coquilles because they apply such a sheer finish. However, I think they would give you much too sheer of a finish to use them with foundation -- I doubt you'll even be able to see the foundation if you apply it with an FO brush!

I still recommend the Silky Smooth Taklon Kabuki for foundation -- it applies such a lovely, smooth, perfect finish that even if you apply a bit too much it will still look great! If you're still worried you'll apply too much, make sure you use the sifters that come with the jars (just gently shake the jar so just a little powder ends up on top of the sifter) and tap the brush to remove excess (I tap the bristles against the lid of the jar, I can get rid of a lot of excess that way!)

The kabuki can also be used with primers (Porcelaine, Silk, etc.). I actually use those cheapo wedge-shaped sponges from the drugstore for my primers Smile

But I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a brush that works for all of these products -- normally you want a much ligher application of finishing powder than you do of foundation! For primers, you may want either a light or heavy application depending on your skin type and what you're using the primer for. (E.g. I can use a lot of Porcelaine and Silk on my oily skin, but other girls may need to use less!)

I haven't tried the new Taklon face brushes, just the kabuki, but I love the kabuki and the fiber optic brushes so much I have no desire to try the others at this point Big Grin

Well, I am trying to aim for a more natural look, and I was impressed enough by the fiber optic eyeshadow brush (which I will never see again) to wonder how something like that many times larger could evenly distribute things like primer and foundation on my face. While I like how mineral makeup feels on my skin, I've been having some problems with avoiding cakeyness, which is the main reason why I thought something like fiber optics would be a good option. Kabukis, as great as they can be, are a bit too dense for my taste, regardless of brand I've tried.

souffle.. you very well might like a fiber optic to apply foundation mmu. why not give it a try?
some ladies light the barest of coverage. a fiber optic would indeed give bare coverage, and allow you to do very light layers in areas you need a tad more coverage.
Please let us know what you choose and how it works.
Also.. so sorry your purse was stolen. That is a huge hassle , not to mention frightening.
