A fiber optic brush is the best for applying anything lightly. Just tap a tiny amount in a lid or swirl dish, dip, tap off any excess, and apply. You can always build up to the look you want. I just purchased a fiber optic eyeshadow brush and I absolutly love it. It works great for the v. I have three fiber optic brushes, Face, Blush, and eye, and I don't know how I got along without them. You can purchase them through AL.
Some of the girls will apply the blush before the foundation if they think it will be too bright .

I apply Voile foundation first, then PR blush. I wouldn't be able to use any of the red PRs (I love Corset and Persimmon) without the fiber optic brush. The brush provides a sheer application. If for any reason the color is still dark (rarely happens with the fiber optic brush, but...) I just apply more mmu foundation over the blush to tone it down. Only takes a little--usually just the tiny bit of residue that's left on the brush from when I applied foundation.

<><><><><><><><><><>

Current Al favs: 2Y Voile; Corset, Sweetheart and Persimmon pure rouges; Arielle, Seaglass and Slate eye shadows; Marcasite gel eyeliner

Personal coloring: ash brown hair (looks dark in photos) with reddish highlights (only visible in bright sunlight) and a few white hairs; soft grayed blue-green eyes; fair neutral skin (Al level 2) that burns then tans; Irish-English ancestry. I do not look good in obviously warm colors. I believe I'm either a Color Me Beautiful "Cool Summer" or a Donna Fujii "High-Contrast Summer," as the colors of these 2 palettes suit me well.

The Fiber Optic brush really does make a world of difference with applying dark or bright blushes! There's several colors that I can only wear because of that brush!

However, if you don't want to buy the brush right away, for now you can try applying the blush as sheerly as you can BEFORE you apply the foundation. Applying foundation on top of blush will tone down the blush and let the blush color show through as a nice "glow" Smile (In fact, for the Rocks blushes, I apply them sheerly with the Fiber Optic brush AND apply them under my foundation, since they're so bright! But using those two techniques, some of them, especially femmefatale, end up looking very natural on me!)

Another option is mixing the blush with something of a lighter color. I've heard of a lot of girls mixing reddish blushes like Verve with Innocence PR to tone it down, and I have done it once or twice and it works well. Or you can just apply Innocence on top of the darker blush. Innocence is more sparkly than most of the other PR's, though, so start with a sample first if you don't like sparkle Smile Some of the lighter Perles might also work for this, I don't know since I haven't used any Perles Smile

I agree that the brush makes a huge difference, but if you're not in a position to buy a new brush right now, you can mix a teeny bit of foundation with Corset before you apply it.

I actually use AL's "flawless face" brush to apply blush- it's fluffy and soft, yet it's the right shape for me to get a more concentrated flush right up under the cheekbone, and a soft fade from there. I apply it in a kind of weird way- sort of a poke with the brush angled upward right in the area where my cheekbone slopes down into my face. It's odd, but works much better for me than trying to paint the blush on- looks too streaky when I do it that way. Razz

custom mix of: voile/glissade 1YL-2YL plus a bit of Lilas Coquille. Green eyes, Dark purple/brown/black hair, freckles. Current faves: Bella, Sinisterrouge, and Luminary!

I am one of those who apply corset before I apply my foundation... sometimes in the morning I am too sleepy and too lazy to fuss with all of my brushes!

Reddish Hair • Blue/Green eyes • 1YL or 00 Glissade normal skin/dry in winter • Clear and High Contrast coloring- I can wear pretty much anything... and I do! • Clarisonic/Vitamin C/Baby Quasar/Retin A/ NuFace junkie • Love Rocks! and Elemental Lustres shadows • I always wear lots of black with a bright color and match my eyeshadow to my clothing... love breaking the rules • 1970 baby... that makes me how old?

You could try mixing Corset (or other highly pigmented PR) with clear mica. I think this was sold on the Pure Hue page once upon a time, not sure if it still is. I like to do this because I like to feel like I'm applying a decent amount of product, instead of dabbing barely nothing on. LOL, I think it's more fun that way to be able to do dramatic sweeps across my cheeks, but of course I'd look like a clown if I didn't dilute the Corset first.

Coloring: 1.5 level skin with yellow undertones, hazel eyes, medium golden/reddish brown hair color. Surprisingly, I look best in neutral and cool-toned makeup. Love greys and pinks. Current Favorites: Magnetism gel liner, Rocks! Rouge in Breathless, Pinafore Color Cream, Adelaide EDT, Delicate Vanilla Bean Lipbalm, Ondberry and Maylily Spring Solstice!

since you only have a regular blush brush i would sprinkle just a tiny itty bitty bit onto a clean surface and smoosh my brush into it so it's evenly distributed, perhaps dusting it in the palm of your hand first to remove any excess. then dust on cheeks. i did this myself till i bought my beloved fiber optic brush.

i never thought of mixing it with foundation... pretty good idea. Shhhh and as mentioned before... you can always apply it before foundation which will tone down the color. just try a few different things and see what works best for you. good luck!

I love the fiber optic brushes I have been thrilled with each of them! Awesome quality and much more affordable than brushes at a dept store!

Lyndz, glad to hear you love the fiber optic eye! My next brush will be the Ultra-Posh Black Silk Fiber Optic Oval Eyeshadow brush.

I would buy a cheap fan brush from any art supply store until I could get a better brush. I have heard a lot of great things about the fiber optic brushes, however I haven't got one yet. I do have a fan brush & it works GREAT! HTH!

Melissa I was going to check that brush out next as well.
I was surprized on how well the fiber optic eye worked all over the lid or in the V. It really lets you work with the colors.

yeah, the finish is perfection! i love dolly too and i am not a big fan of pink. i'm so glad they're sticking around or i'd have 20 full sizes of corset stashed away like i do with the lollypop colorwash. Smile
