All things 80's...

Madonna
huge glasses (think Sally Jesse)
work-out wear
Aqua-Net
bangles
hair on one side
fingerless gloves
teased hair
leg warmers
parachute pants
neon
Members Only jackets
Jellies
Swatch watches
acid washed jeans
Guess jeans
layered socks
the preppie look
shoulder pads
oversized tops

Makeup: First and foremost there was just way too much of it. The girls of the decade literally “painted” their faces on. The two defining makeup elements in the 80s face were bold eyes and blush meant to accentuate the cheek bones. The more noticeable the eye shadow and the heavier the blush, the better you looked as far as 80s fashion was concerned. If your face didn’t look halfway clownish, you hadn't quite achieved the look yet.
The eyeliner, in particular, was worn in abundance and on the inside. Surely you remember gently pulling the bottom of your eye down to achieve the most complete coverage. Nothing says 80s valley vixen like tons of blue or teal eyeliner rimming the inside of your eyes. (By the way, if planning for an 80s party, you are going to want to employ this eyeliner trick – it has an instant transformative effect). Bright blue eye shadow along with a bold secondary color, heavy eyeliner, colored mascara – let’s just say it was the complete opposite of the “natural” look that’s so popular today.

While we’re talking about eye makeup, let’s discuss an alternate use we found for eyeliner in the eighties. Before the 80s, having a mole wasn’t something to be proud of. Then we fell in love with Madonna and suddenly everyone wanted one. Weren’t born with it? Not a problem. Buy a stick-on or simply draw one on with brown eyeliner. Did it look good? Heck no! But come on, it was the 80s!

We didn't accessorize - we "excessorized" and LOVED it.

I was a child of the 1980's (born in '75). I had 2 older sisters that I idolized because they had all the "cool" clothes. Good heavens...what were we thinking?!?

Ok, so we may not want to actually recreate this theme, but at least I helped to bring back some "cool" memories Smile

Feel free to add on to the memory list. It's fun to reminisce.

JELLIES!!!!!!!

Oh the memories of getting that one rock that I could NEVER get out of them at the beach...

The criss-cross sunburns on my feet...

And how ironic that a commercial is on tv as I write this for a cd of 80's "monster rock" LOL ugh I used to sing along to Meatloaf in the car with my parents (I was born in 85, I was too young to have any clue what those songs meant!)

Oh, goodness gracious, the 80's were something weren't they?

I remember when I was about 18 or 19 I was in my 'Madonna-phase'. I tried to dress like she did in her 'Borderline' video. And you're so right, Melissa, about the 80's makeup. Intense EVERYTHING! And I have tons of pictures to prove it.

But the music ~ nothing compares to the music of the 80's in my book.

And I must add ~ if you're in the mood to see a few more 80's stuff, watch the movie "Music and Lyrics" with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. It's really cute! I laughed my butt off!

I recently watched that and enjoyed it. I tend to get tired of seeing Hugh Grant play the same bumbling but lovable brit role, but this time it really works well. He and Drew Barrymore are good together. The video at the beginning was hilarious.

Oh my gosh, I am SO horrible at names of songs. I cheated and came up with a couple...white wedding, avalon, back in black, raspberry beret and just like heaven.

For me, I need to hear the song to know what it is. I have no idea from names alone.

Groups might be easier... Styxx, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, or was that late 70s...I'm trying to remember what concerts I went to back then... Billy Joel, Heart, hmmm, sorry, memory must be faded....Oh! Duran Duran, Police, Wham!, Michael Jackson, Yaz, Poison, Guns N Roses, Motely Crue, oooh I'm on a roll...INXS, Bryan Adams, Billy Idol...HA! The mind is not yet gone!

Brown hair, brown eyes, tan very easily. Currently using 2W glissade foundation, w/PINK CREAM CONCEALER and PC3 or neutral dark concealer for a great undereye and age spot concealer, and also adore the Elemental Lustre Cheek Glistens and Metamorphosis; never go to bed without first using Nocturne

The PINK CREAM CONCEALER IS A MIRACLE PRODUCT - DO NOT leave home without it Wink

I never got too much into the underground 80's music but these are the popular ones I recognize:
whitewedding, prettyinpink(I know that was an 80's movie, can't remember the song tho)
helterskelter, taintedlove, heartofglass(late70's I think), obsession, rasberryberet, funkytown(the 80's version), purplerain, planetearth, tempted.

Smile everything 80's!

I thought they were all song names. Well, except Agent Orange was a band, I can't recall a song with that name.

Without listing each one, there's stuff from the Misfits, the Clash, Sonic Youth, Bowie, Joy Division, the Damned, Sisters of Mercy, the Cure, New Order, AC/DC, the Beatles, Siouxsie, the Cult, the Stones...plenty of good stuff.

I love 80's music as well, but the fashion(mainstream that is-I loved New Wave and Punk etc.) and makeup I could do without! What was that TV show with Joan Collins where they all wore those enormous shoulders?

Joan Collins was on Dynasty.

Dallas had Larry Hagman and the infamous scene in which Bobby Ewing's death was just a dream so the character could return.

I didn't watch either show, but my parents loved Dallas, and you couldn't encounter anyone who hadn't heard of it. When we went to England, people kept asking us who shot J.R.?

Ugh, isn't that the truth.

I did have big hair, but it wasn't "New Jersey Mallrat I love BonJovi 80's godawfulhairband" big hair, it was more Robert Smith (or for you Cure fans, more Simon Gallup, who had WAY better hair Mwahahaha ) inspired.

Cin, I bet you looked cool!I had a Siouxsie look going, and a mohawk for awhile, I also had a hairdo early on that could actually be considered a mullet:-P-I was trying to copy David Bowie(it was dyed red). I miss the 80's-it was so refreshing after the late 70's which was the worst time to be a teenager IMO.
