Hello lovelies!

For this weeks challenge I thought it would be fun to play with "Complimentary Colors". Complimentary Colors are colors that are found opposite of each other on the color wheel. They are interesting because although they are opposites, they are very useful and necessary to each other. Here is a visual for those of you that may need it:

Photobucket

For example: blue is the complimentary color of orange, yellow-green is the complimentary color of red-violet and so on.

Feel free to use the complimentary colors any way you choose....let your imagination run wild!

If I remember right, mixing two opposites makes black, right? So be careful blending!

I always have to be careful blending as my skin is sensitive. When I get a makeover, I often have to tell the makeup artist to lay off the blending because s/he is hurting me. I've figured out how to do it that doesn't require much blending, which is a trick being so fair -- it's gotta be right from the get go.

Or you don't necessarily have to blend two colors together. For example, you could do one color on eyes and the complimentary color on lips or cheeks!

Yup, that's what MAC's "Cult of Cherry" line was like. Burgundy lips and yellow on the lids Smile (Well, actually the opposite would have been purple lips... but that look was close)

Yeah, I was thinking they made brown. But I guess it also depends on the darkness of the colors to begin with how brown to almost black looking they get after blending. BTW, since the opposite of green is red, the best color to make your green eyes pop is RED! But not too many people are willing to wear that color on their lids. But that explains now why my eyes looked sooo green in the last makeup challenge post. (Wore hibiscus over black liner, so looked reddish).

PS I love the idea of lilac and yellow together too! Hmm...

I love red eye shadow, but you're right....it's a fine line between 'pretty' and looking like you have cholera. Big Grin

oooh, this c/b so FUN!! I'm dying to try a couple of my Rocks! freebie samples together, but since yellow-and-purple combos have already been mentioned, I might opt for something else - maybe a pink-and-green tribute in colour to my friend Shauna (those were her fave colours in HS, wonder if they still are)... and thx for posting that chart, Hottie, it's super-helpful to have that visual reference! Smile

here's my look for complimentary colors - I went for dark - rust vs. midnight

didn't get a good full face shot today - sorry Confused

tarnish lashline to crease
dominion outer 1/3 and in crease, under lower lashline
marigold to highlight

it was pretty dramatic for walking around in my tiny town and then to the pottery painting place to make coasters, but, hey, is was fun! I felt kind of like a super-hero in the bronze and blue combo - a little WonderWoman-ish, maybe...

this started out just simple and the shade of the colors(blue and orange)were so outrageous i thought it would be fun to put more on and do those kinda 80's glamour shots.although knowing me i would still wear this out.

That's good information to have when mixing unused samples together to create a new le mystere shade. I remember a post of Miss K's where she mixed together four or five bright shades and ended up with a totally wearable taupe. Crazy.

Speaking of blending and getting brown/almost black -- I know I've seen it here that people disliked what they came up with because it looked muddy. It was probably blending two together vs. laying them somewhat separately.

Good job, Peacock!
