All things 60's...

Montgomery Ward's
Sears
McCall's
Spiegel

Dramatic eyes, featuring mascara used heavily, producing spiked lashes. Shadow is colored or dark. Skin is pale, often from foundation or powder called "translucent." Lips are pale or glittering, rarely showing dark shades. The focus is the eyes.

Now you might well ask, did real people wear this much make up? At night, maybe. By day, it was unlikely that anyone would take the time involved to get that dolled up. Although in general, a 1960s look required more woman hours than you would care to devote today. You probably wouldn't wear false eyelashes but yes, the blue and green eye shadow would be among your make up tools.

Funny thing, I was just talking about 60's makeup yesterday with a friend. I recall Cover Girl with the Noxema in it, Ivory (white as white) plastered all over my face, with white or near-white lipstick and Maybelline eyebrow pencil used as eyeliner. And who could forget that frosted BLUE eyeshadow. We thought we were happening.... great memory, thanks.

And don't forget the white PVC go-go boots we wore w/our mini skirts! I was born in '61 so by the time my Mom finally gave me the green light to wear this "groovy" fashion look it was almost the 70's, and by then it was on it's way out of style. And alas, I was too young to get to wear any of the 60's m/u looks - I really should have been born in the 50's!

I thought I'd try to do kind of a sixties cat eye.
I used Bridget's trick of putting a little line of eyeliner down from the tear duct, and it made a big difference. I used Heron matte eyeshadow on the lid and Eggplant matte in the crease. I put a little Glimmer on the browbone. I lined my eyes with Umber Matte shadow mixed with sealer.
It looked way less subtle in the mirror, but I wore it out to IKEA anyway cause I liked it!

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Grrrr... you look great! I've always said I should have been born in the 60's... alas, I was born in '75, but I'm more of an 80's child! I use to dress up as a flower child for Halloween all the time! Another great theme!

Thanks for the nice words! I enjoyed wearing this out and about-I'll probably regularly line my eyes like this, until i start to worry I look like a Grey Gardens lady. btw: I used a little bit of scotch tape to mask so I could get a straight line-I'm so clumsy with brushes!
