Based on my reply to Nadja in a post on Grim's makeover, I thought it might be fun to test the waters a little bit with some challenges. Something that can really get us to stretch our wings, play, cheese it up a little bit.

We could make this into a really cool and rollicking ongoing game.

I'm thinking we could initiate threads headlined by themes - 20s, 30s, Pin Up, Mod Girl, Dietrich and Garbo, Club, and so on - sky's the limit. Get fanciful - Pixies, Elves, Sprites, Aliens, on and on and on. Go seasonal - or monthly - what would a Winter Girl look like? Or Miss March? You could choose a theme and work up a glorious face. Post a pic showing your handiwork along with a list of products used.

On other forums they tend to run a particular theme for a specific period of time. I'm thinking it might be more fun, or at least more relaxed, if anyone could work out any face at any time, and just post in the appropriate thread.

What do you girls think? Doable and fun? Or just more of Bridget's weirdness?

-b.

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

B~ I don't think you're weird, but... it's the 'wierdness' that makes it doable & fun! I'd call it unique! A very delightful idea!

Excellent!

Now, it's just a matter of starting the threads with the themes.

I'm thinking everyone should be able to initiate a thread. Keeps the whole game very democratic, I think. But there should be some guidelines as far as how to describe the theme.

Here is what I'm thinking so far:

1. Choose the title that is evocative and simple. ie Pixies, Mod, Elements, Pin Up, etc.

2. Create a quick description of the theme. ie "Pixies are small, ethereal fairy-like beings often seen in wooded areas. They frequently have wings and are, of course, gifted with Pixie Dust. Think sparkles and flowers and ribbons and basically just about total fairy-like delights!"

3. Include a couple of inspiration pictures or links to some. These might be works of art, images from a film or play, fashion photos, things culled from stock photography, etc. Not limited to "beauty shots" showing actual makeup. Just inspiration pics, the more and broader the better!

4. As people want to post, they just make a reply and include a photo or three, plus a breakdown of what they used, maybe even including how and where, if they feel like it. The how-to is a great addition, but shouldn't necessarily be required simply for time constraints.

Do we want to have any sort of voting over time? Or just keep the whole thing more like show and tell? My heart says show and tell, but I'm more interested in what you all have to say.

What other guidelines ought we to have?

Really, this just seemed like it might be a fun spin-off on the cyber makeovers that have been going around. A little bit of wing stretching and creative play. We've all seen some AMAZING looks, and there have been a fair number of responses along the lines of "You look so good - I coudl never wear that." I'm thinking, "Yes, YOU CAN wear that!! Might not be your every day look, might only work for a special occasion or a dress up event or costume party, but you SO could wear that."

I'd like to see us all try things we thought we "could never."

I'm so glad you all think this could be fun - and I look forward to more input from EVERYONE!! We can make this a totally kick butt corner of the web!

Cool - then let's just begin. I'll start posting a couple of themes using the guidelines above. EVERYONE feel free to add their favorites. And if you come across images that fit within themes already begun, DO post them or link them in the threads - the more visual inspiration the better!

This feels very fluid to me, and very egalitarian. Which I like more than "competition". As we go along, please continue to add your comments and suggestions so that we can make this group of threads really cool!

Now to dream up and put together some initial theme threads...

What a totally cool idea! Geez, I've got to get my own camera! I think it will be fascinating to see how everybody interprets the same idea. I know that seeing what other ladies do has inspired me to try some things I never would have thought of on my own. This idea will get everybody to think outside the box and try new things, which will be an outstanding confidence booster, as well as a mind expanding experience! Great idea, B! Gotta get a camera - after the water recedes!

You people are going to force me (kicking and screaming) into the 21st century - I see right now that I'm gonna' have to buy a camera, sit still for pics, and eventually learn how to post them........

A VERY FUN idea you've got going on here, Mizz Bridget!!!!!

EXACTLY!!!!

A bit like when we were younger and would experiment with makeup on our friends....although none of my friends would ever let me do their makeup Boo Hoo Hoo I guess they figured I'd make them look like Robert Smith. Mwahahaha

We look at our own faces every single day, so sometimes we don't see what others see. Makeovers are a great way to bring out the little something YOU see in someone else.

This idea takes it to yet another level, one that will really help all of us to take our own looks in new directions. And of course, show us inspiration from places we may have never thought of before.

The forum is "full" again so we can't attach photos anymore (again) and I can't weed out anymore photos to delete anymore. I went through 2 weeks ago and deleted a bunch, but there really aren't any more to delete. Sadly, I don't think this platform is made for a forum like ours where people are posting lots of pictures. It doesn't have the bandwidth to support lots of photos.

So photos need to be hosted at an outside source, such as photobucket, and then you need to use the image link to add them to your posts.

Can anyone who does this do a little tutorial and show people how to do it? I really have to go work on orders... I would gladly make this a sticky thread if someone could make it a new thread on "how to post photos from photobucket, etc"...

?

Thanks!!!

K

Instructions for Photobucket.

1. Register for a free account at photobucket or other free photo hosting site

photobucket

2. To upload a photo in photobucket, click browse.

3. Find the file you want to upload and click open in the window that opened. Then click upload on the photobucket site.

Now to post the picture in Aromaleigh forum, I find it easier to have two windows open: one for photobucket and one for the message.

From Photobucket, select the URL link under the picture. Highlight the link, right click, select copy.

In the message window at Aromaleigh, select the postcard icon at the top.

Paste the URL link you copied from Photobuck into the bar on the message box. Click OK.

In your message, you will see the link bracketed by [IMG], but the photo will appear inthe message when you post it.
