It looks like I'm supposed to post the makeup challenge for the week. I couldn't *quite* make up my mind, so decided on an overall theme: Let's go East! Middle-East or Far East, you choose.

A lot of the images, music, movies and even TV programs that I've been seeing, watching and listening to of late seem to be going all the way from Egypt to Japan with a stop at Bollywood, so I thought it would be fun to cover the whole, as every style is quite interesting and dramatic in its own way, and the spread of location gives a nice broad range for people to try.

Inspiration:
This is a Maiko that was part of a documentary on training as a Geisha that the BBC showed last week. Isn't she lovely?

Asian bridal makeup. Very dramatic!

Have fun everybody, and I look forwards to seeing what you come up with!

ok so i wanted to do a bollywood look. i love their style and makeup. the only thing is after doing this. im not bollywood material (b/c im not indian) . oh well it was fun doing this though.

so heres my inspiration

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otfw...4/s400/bollywood.jpg

heres my pics

ok so what i used:
EYEs: i already had darcelle on for the day
applied entangle over inner 1/2 of lid and 1/2 lower lashes
applied torment wet to outter 1/3 of lid
applied garnet dry over torment in crease and vee and 1/2 outer lower lashes
alchemy from crease to brow
allure perle powder to highlight brow bone
willow over brows (this is the only matte brown i have and i dont own brow powders)
blackdiamond wet to line

face: illusion under eye
usual foundation
nocturine over foundation (its a bit darker on me and golden looking. i wanted their golden glow)
delicate burgandy as blush

Lips: non AL red lip liner. crush over lips. sylvie over that. zinfandel over that (i was trying to get the perfect red in the pic, so i had to apply different stuff to get close)

for overall effect:i applied dots of dazzle over forhead b/c i dont have any stick on jewels

Enjoy! thanks for looking.

Wow, great work! Looks very bollywood Smile I love the lippie and shadow on you. I think we are just used to different makeup in the US. I hope you can incorporate parts of this look into some future FOTD's!

Robyn, I found a lot of the Asian bridal makeups really really nice, they seem to be a lot less shy of colour than lots of us tend to be (and I include myself there) and I think some tricks should be interesting to try. Example: I *love* the eyelining shape they did on that first photo in the Mahnoor site.

And while we wouldn't normally do the whole white geisha face, some of the ways they apply the eye makeup and the colours would be interesting to try. I know I've tried a vaguely japanese-inspired look with peony, maybe I should try again and post results... I wonder how it would all look with the new Twilight lustres for the face.

Calie, I like what you've done with the eyes, and your skin certainly looks very glowy!

And let's see if this time I remember to tick the notifications box, I was wondering why I hadn't heard a thing LOL

So pretty Calie!! I also love that lip color. I totally think you can tone this down and wear it during the day - pretty colors on you.

Calie you look great! I'm so glad you were brave enough to post first. I don't know what I'm going to do yet but I'll come up with something. It will definitely be bolder than the looks I usually post.

I have nothing to do today, so I decided to play with makeup and do this challenge. I did a Geisha look - as if you couldn't tell Smile

* MUFE Flash Color in white for entire face
* my mix of Firewoman, Cherrybomb and Shakeitup Glitter (pressed mix) on brows, outer eye corners and cheeks
* Black Out to line upper lash line
* Red lipgloss

Yes, the look has already been removed Smile
The flash color creases like nobody's business. It wouldn't last long in any sort of heat. I'd look like a white river Smile I also didn't go down the neck with it, like most Geisha pics appear to do.

It was fun to create though. Hope you like it!

the makeup is lovely, and I wonder if it would be possible to do something like that just for the eyes, while keeping the rest of the face in a more natural colour, or maybe just with metamorphosis or the twilight lustres, so it can be worn more regularly.

The only unexpected thing is that, with the hairband, it's giving me a bit of pierrot vibe Smile

This reminds me of the Hello Kitty face I paint often at the Park.... facepaint definitely makes a great base -- I use the white with a sponge to create the porcelain doll look. Then a lovely pink on cheeks and inner ears (just above the eyes). A little black nose. 3 whiskers on each side and hot pink tiny rosebud geisha lips.

It's so simple, yet elegant. I love your pink eyebrows!

Cool Melissa! I really like the eye shape too. Well, I don't know when I'll be doing another challenge, I've just not had the energy, so since I did a challenge look a while back that fits into this category too, I'll repost. Hope you don't mind! (maybe, maybe! I'll post again this week...)

Eyes: alloy outer 1/3 and around into crease, candy-O middle 1/3, psyche inner 1/3 and to line bottom, firewoman patted with a wet brush in crease, then blended, upper lid lined with a mix of sinisterrouge and wildflower. Brow bone highlighted with lux and psyche mix. Lips: lip balm, then blossom patted over that, then candy-O in the middle. Face: Metamorphosis/silk/URFP clear/Porcelain medium all over. Cheeks highlighted with lux and blossom.

Arien, what a fun challenge! I love the exotic Bollywood look, even tho' I'm about as un-exotic as it gets Razz LOL

Amber, your Bollywood interpretation is so pretty! I love how well all of the shimmer and sparkle in your mu shows up in your pix Smile

WOW, Melissa, if you weren't so tall you could totally pass as a geisha...! Wink this is almost a dead-on dupe of the inspiration pic Arien posted - amazing!!

HL, I love the placement of your eye colours here - that was one of the things I tried to do w/my own look, but I'm not sure I pulled it off quite as well as you did - brava! Smile

very VERY nice work, ladies! I did manage to try my hand at a Bollywood look for this challenge myself, so I need to get pix uploaded to share...

okay, so this was my first-ever attempt at Bollywood mu, which is incredibly beautiful and exotically feminine, and a WHOLE lot more involved than I imagined...! since my colouring doesn't lend itself to an obvious Bollywood look, I picked elements that I thought I could work with: drama (several of the models on the Asian bridal makeup link that Arien provided had drama on both eyes and lips - thx for that link, btw, those were such beautiful, inspiring photos!), shape, colour combos, and placement... I think if I did something like this again I'd approach it differently, but I thought this turned out fairly well, albeit a bit OTT for daily wear:

here's what I used:
EYES
eye shadow primer all over
pink negligee EP from crease to brow
may lily SS LE on inner 1/3 of eyelid
jessamine SS LE on middle 1/3 of eyelid
DQ green on outer 1/3 of eyelid
hermia MND (discont'd) in crease all the way across to inner corner
tapestry OL to deepen V
magic wand PH just under brow
chocolate mousse gel eyeliner on upper and lower lash lines (w/extended "wing" on upper lash line)
DQ green under entire lower lash line (incl over coal liner)
may lily SS LE on inner corner of eye
AL lash primer
2 coats mascara (top lashes only)

FACE/LIPS
coquille vert on chin, around nose, and across forehead
voile 1Y/1YL foundation (still haven't found exactly the right combo yet)
kinetic EL Cheek Glisten under cheek bones
sinisterrouge Rocks! Rouge over kinetic
ultra res FP in english rose
ETA: I forgot I also used capri lip liner to line and also in corners
smitten elemental NCC

thx for looking! Smile

*MWAH!*
