Ever since changing my hair color, I've been getting a lot of flak about my eyebrows. So I come asking what color I could possibly combine to make up an good auburn color because I'm not willing to pay MAC's price for something I could easily make, ya know?

I was almost thinking Russet, possibly Torment would be a good accent with a matte brown?

Anyway, here's a photo for reference.

Any help, I'd appreciate.

Hopefully Bridget will pop in because methinks she concocted her very own auburn brow filler before. Smile

I think Russet has too much shine, and you might want to stay matte for the brows. I hear the Chocolat has an orangey tint to it and may work. Maybe try Bouganvillea or Magnolia to mix. Bouganvillea works for me straight on as a filler... but my brows and hair are more brunette than what you are going for.

Torment was the first thing that came to my mind. Sparkly shades for your brows always look wonderful, so don't hesitate to try them. I think the Russet would look good too. Because your hair is such an intense shade, you can try anything from a more natural, softer auburn to an all out glam red.

How 'bout mixing a little DQ Red in there too, just to see how it'll look?

Some shimmer is good for brow powder; after all, your hairs are naturally shiny, not totally matte! (I use a mix of matte and Lustre shadows.)

Not sure on color suggestions, but if you ever need a dark blonde mix I'll hook you up Wink

OK, girls... you made me wonder about the glimmer. So I went and put some Russet in my brows to test. It definitely made more of a wine shade, but not as vibrant as your hair, Demoness. A mix might be in order. I don't have Torment to try out. (sorry... can't find my camera card, so I couldn't take pics)

It's a matter of taste, but I still wasn't liking the shimmer in my brows. I could see the sparkles and felt like they "stood out" on me. But hey— I tried! It's always good to try something new! I am a fan of the pencils myself... I love the AL pencils and shaper.

So that got me thinking... what about trying a burgundy lipliner to fill... like Coppercino?

I've been using a red/copper from a Revlon quad, it's quite shimmery & it seems to fill in really well. So, I don't think I'll have a problem with shimmers. In fact, it kind of helps on the thinner areas of my brow, having a reflective surface.

I don't have reds at my disposable to test around colors, but I'm making an order & I'm leaning towards: Torment, Chocolat, Eros, Russet (I'm really kicking myself for not getting that when it was 50% off), DQ Red, & helterskelter for kicks.

I'd much rather have a powder. Pencils I tend to go too...bold, whereas powders I can blend out.

Thank you for all the help, I'll update on what I concoct.

Demoness, I prefer powder myself....when I use pencil, no matter what I do, it never looks right to me. I'm always thinking I'll look like the crazy lunch ladies from grammar school who shaved theirs off and then drew them back on 3 inches too high up!

Powders can easily be blended, you might mix a red with a dark brown or even a pinch of grey/black to get a good match. I normally use Smokescreen in mine, but have a handful that I like to play around with depending on what sort of a look I'm doing.

The shimmer - if you're not used to enhancing your brows, it can look odd at first, it could be because the color isn't quite right or you're just not used to it! If you start doing them regularly, you can't live without the enhancement and a bit of sparkle!

Oh... I have to enhance my brows, too! Daily. Even if I don't wear eyeshadow... it's the one thing I do. I can't live without it either. LOL @ Cin. I had a bus driver when I was in school that did exactly that to her brows. (drawn up above her existing brows) I can still picture her!

I'd be interested in seeing Bridget's wax recipe... I am lucky that Natural Taupe is a perfect match for me. I like the pencils or waxes because they last longer on my brows than powder, which disappears quicker on me. I make short stokes with the pencil that mimic my hairs and blend it with that cool little brush on the end. The AL pencil has a great smooth texture. Perfecto! (Shoot... I am not trying to drum up a conversion to the brow pencils... I realize I just wrote a mini review there.)

But with the powders, you can get a more custom color match, for sure. The colors that you mentioned are good ones, Demoness. Russet is a great multitasker! I LOVE it mixed in gloss on the lips or to darken lippies! So you can't go wrong with that one... and at least there is the 20% off still!

I look forward to your update and new creation!

Yep, I also like powders, and surprisingly, the shadows I uses as brow powder lasts all day even on my oily skin! (Now if I use the powders on my eyelids, I still need a primer. But for some reason they last just fine in my brows -- yay!)

For my dark blonde mix, I use a base of Slate (matte), add in a dash of Marsh (matte) to warm it up, and a dash of Daphne (Lustre) to lighten it and add a bit of shimmer. So there's still more matte than shimmer powders in the mix, and the shimmer is very subtle. I'm not sure if I'd want a straight shimmer either Wink

I, also, have to have my brows filled in. Not necessary everyday (I have my days I just don't bother with putting a face on), but I do feel/look haggard when they aren't filled in. It's weird at what a difference it does with a look.

Like Cin, whenever I use a brow pencil, I go overboard. Even with small strokes 'n whatnot it's just too harsh.

I can't wait to try helterskelter as a brow mix, it'll be too funny. Smile
