I've always just plucked my brows but otherwise never did anything else to them. Just this week I tried filling them in for the first time -- I think the inner half of my brows are thick enough, but the other half is kinda thin and just fades away. I was hoping a brow filler would provide some added definition and focus to my eyes, since I wear glasses and have deep set eyes!

I remember Robyn saying that she used Slate as a brow powder, so I ordered a sample, along with the brow brush when it was 50% off last week Big Grin I thought she must be crazy because Slate looked grey in the bag! My hair is a dark golden blonde, and my brows are a similar dark blonde color. But I tried a little Slate anyway, and it didn't look too bad from a distance but looked a little "off" close up. So I mixed in just a dash of Marsh to warm it up without changing the color drastically. And that worked great! I still can't decide if it's a hair too dark or if I'm just not used to seeing my brows filled in -- if I still think it's too dark after a couple of days, I might mix in a dash of Flaxen or Sand to lighten it. But this Slate+Marsh mix is pretty good if not perfect Smile (I also tried Marsh by itself since in the baggie it looked close to my hair color. But it made my brows look orange!)

So thanks, Robyn, for the idea of using Slate! Big Grin

Also, a little of my regular Porcelaine+Silk primer mix in my brows helps the powder last longer on my oily skin. I also make sure to press the blotting papers to my brows when I blot the rest of my face Smile

So what do you use to fill your brows, and what color are your hair and brows?

My guess is that you're just not used to seeing your brows filled in. It does take a little getting used to!! Of course, play around with the colors, it could be just a bit too dark for you. Mix away and you'll find a great match that you love. Don't shy away from shimmery or sparkly colors either, it can look really good!

Since I'm really only trying to darken my brows, not fill in, I use shadow. I've used pencil but can't seem to master it - I think pencil works better for filling in, not just trying to darken. I use a nice stiff brush and dab it into any black shadow shade I grab, tap off any excess and brush it in using short strokes.

Keep in mind that a fuller brow can make us appear younger, whereas a thin or overtweezed brow can age us. Full brows still require grooming, keep them neat & eliminate any stray hairs!!!

Hi Girl_Geek!

I use the Indelible brow pencil in Brunette. My hair is very dark brown and the pencil is a little bit lighter (I think that is good). I've tried some that were too black and that looked bad (I am pretty high contrast). I like the pencil because my brows start out fuller at the inner half (like yours) but I do have problems with them looking even on both sides.

I've been using a pencil on them for years now. The AL pencil is great because it has a little brush on the other side; this makes it the best one that I've used. I fill in the sparse patches and/or draw on the 'tail' on the end so both brows match, and then go over it with the little brush on the end. This softens the pencil and blends it in. I've used it in all of my pictures and I don't think it looks glaringly obvious (ie. worse that I've used it). If I happen to use too much, I just take a cotton swab and go over it lightly to erase it!

I've used powder too, but I'm so used to the pencil now (and quick with it), that it is just my preferred tool. So you might want to get one of the lighter pencils when they go on sale and give that a try (sounds like you are doing well with the powders too, so hey, if that's working...) Big Grin

girl_geek, I'm glad you're experimenting to find a color that works for you. I have fairly dark eyebrows compared to my hair color (I'm not a natural blonde) so Slate is/was a good match for me. For the most part, I use a drug store taupe brow pencil. In every FOTD or weekly makeup challenge look I've posted, I'm wearing the taupe pencil (unless I specifically state that it's something else like Slate but it's been awhile since I've used it).

My pencil is getting very puny and I was considering purchasing the indelible brow pencils here, but couldn't decide between Blondi and Natural Taupe. I was actually going to post asking people's opinions of the two colors but never got around to it. I think they were just on sale too. Oh well.

Abby, I just re-checked your post from last week's makeup challenge and your brows are spectacular!

I tried mixing in a dash of Flaxen with my Slate+Marsh mix, and it's even better -- very natural and close to my brow color, just adds a little definition without looking too over the top Smile Slate is still the base color, and the Marsh and Flaxen just make it a bit lighter and warmer, like a slightly warmish taupe.

Another option might be to use Slate+Sand, since at a glance Sand appears to be about half-way between Marsh and Flaxen. When my current mix runs out, I might try that!

I just thought this might be helpful for any other blonde girls out there looking for brow fillers Smile

I can't wait to see your next EOTD (not a typo - girl_geek posts "eyes only" pics Smile) with your new eyebrow mix.
