Hello ladies!
I used to use Aromaleigh several years ago. I was going through a rough time in my life, and I didn't really take care of myself like I should. I actually stopped wearing makeup altogether for a few years, because I was too tired, broke, etc to put the effort forth.
In the time that has passed, I've gotten married, earned a master's degree, bought a house and been promoted several times. It's a good place to be, and my New Year's resolution is to get back into a beauty routine!
When I tried AL before, I had the 2YL foundation. This was back in the day when it was Pure Powder. I had struggled at that point to get the color right, and was mixing 2Y and 2L to get the color I needed.
When I was unpacking last month, I found some of my old AL things, and I thought, hey, I'll give it a try again. In the meanwhile, a well-meaning family member gave me some BE, which was horrible on my skin! I have spent the last three weeks dealing with hard white bumps all over and more blackheads than I have ever had in my life! Last week, I decided enough was enough and placed an order for my standby 2YL in both Voile and Glissade.
In lighting fast speed, I received my order (I remember that Kristen was always very speedy on the shipping) and went to work on getting myself back in the swing of AL things. LOL
I have worn the product now for a few days. The 2YL seems to be a good match, but I'm not sure. I'm definitely at my palest right now, so I know the level 2 is right. I do have a yellow tinge to my skin (for example, if I put my arm next to my mom who is a cool-toned gal, I look totally yellow and she looks pink). I'm wondering though if the YL is right for me.
It seems to match my skin right, but as the day goes on, it seems to look more yellow on my skin than is my natural color.
Any suggestions? Is it perhaps better to keep the 2YL and add a coquille?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Blessings,
Lisa

PS- I have brown hair and brown eyes.

Hey, Lisa - Welcome back to Aromaleigh! Congratulations on your accomplishments -you should feel very proud of all you have done!

I think it's great that you are once again in a position to care for yourself with tenderness and honor (which doesn't have to include makeup, btw, but since you're here, we'll just figure that you want to!)

I think that the new shades are still very very very similar to the original. I found myself that my skintone has shifted around a bit. I wore 1Y when it first came out in pure powder, then 1L, then 1YL, the 1W, and now 1N, (although on some days that is a bit pinker than I need, which means I need to gather up some W or Y in my next order).

I would say that if the 2Y/L is reading a bit yellower than your skin, that could mean that you want to add more L to your mix, or even change to a W/L, which will still be warm, but less strongly yellow.

If you have full sizes already, I'd try the following - getting a sample or two of 2L, to mix in as needed, trying the Divine Radiance finsihing powders in Magnolia to add a bit of pink, or Coquille Rose or Coquille Lilas or Coquille Rose - any of those shades will temper the yellow tone in your foundation.

Very often, our own eyes are more sensitive to perceived color differences than are the eyes of observers. So if teh 2Y/L is full sized and is a close match, I'd probably just dust over a Coquille or even blend it right into my foundation powder and apply as a single step.

Are you amazed by all the new products and colors there are around here? I am - seems every time I blink there's something fabulous happening!

-b.

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

I would try a sample of WL, I have complexion similar to what you described and I found the YL a little too yellow, WL was perfect!

Hope that helps and Welcome back!

Welcome back Lisa! I'm glad to hear things are looking up for you, and most importantly, that you're taking care of yourself. A beauty routine will will make you look better and feel better, and that certainly helps boost confidence!

Like Bridget suggested, get some samples. Your skin can change over time, and during the winter months you may find your skin a bit paler than during the summer months.

There's so many wonderful products, it seems Miss K is constantly tempting us with new and exciting things! The Face of the Day and Before & After categories are wonderful sources of inspiration, you can really see what the product can do for you.

Hope to "see" you soon!

Welcome back! I am glad to read that things have turned around and are looking up for you!
You have great advice here, I second trying Warm or Warm/Linen. I wore 2Y for a while but just felt something was missing so I switched to 2W and it gave me the color and balance that I was looking for. Smile

The samples are so cheap, you might consider ordering lots of different colors to see what's the best match for you. I actually mix 2N with 2WL for my perfect shade.

And definitely try both Voile and Glissade -- the finish is a little different and the colors seem slightly different, too.

And congrats on all your positive changes!!! Woot!

Thanks for the advice, ladies!
I will definitely get some samples. It's funny because when I was driving to work this morning, I pulled down the mirror to check the foundation color in natural light and it didn't look too bad. We'll see how it looks later on today.
It IS amazing how many things Kristen has added since I've been 'gone'. I'm definitely getting the Nocturne.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get the samples for your feedback.

Best,
Lisa
