Hi everyone! I'm a complete newbie both to the forum, and to mineral makeup - I was doing fine with liquid foundation, until for some reason Sephora stopped making my shade, which was the only one I'd been able to find that was really perfect for me; the one I'm using now turns orangish on my oily skin at the end of the day - not a pretty sight. Heard good things about mineral foundations (the idea of getting foundation AND powder out of the way in one step in the mornings closed the deal for me) and Aromaleigh in particular, decided to order up some samples of Voile along with a bunch of other things. So, any tips, advice, things I should keep in mind when I get home and start playing with my stash? (I'm embarrased to admit, I was so ridiculously happy to receive my package, as I'm in Spain and I expected it would take longer to get here). Besides the Voile samples, 1 & 2 in the warm/beige/yellow family (haven't tried any on my face yet, but it looks like my match is definitely in here) I also got several shades of Pure Cover undereye concealer, the full set of Color Infusion samples, several balm samples, and the thing that fills me with the most trepidation, a full set of Drama Queen eyeliner samples. I'm pretty much a soft neutrals kind of girl (from the neck up only!), but I've actually been drooling at the lovely colored eyeshadow collections shown in the site - love this sampling system that lets one give in to temptation for a tiny price.

P.S. to Miss K, if you're reading: thanks for the extra lippie sample, it's lovely!

Don't be embarassed!! I was the same way when I got my first set of samples! I'm fairly new to this line as well, but I still squeal with joy when my packages arrive, and I'm online every Wednesday looking to see what's next on sale! Miss K is wonderful to her customers with all the sales items, and coupon codes, not to mention the free samples with your order! I'm a long time mineral makeup user! I use to use a very well known line, but switched to Aromaleigh because of the price, and the customer service! I like feeling like I'm part of a family, rather than just another customer! Have fun! The girls on the forum are great! If you have any questions, just ask, and chances are you are going to find your answer!

Welcome! Aromaleigh was only the second mineral brand I tried so I was also still pretty new too Smile

For foundation, I prefer to apply it with the Silky Smooth Kabuki Brush. You can also use any kabuki brush for a more "normal" finish, or a big fluffy powder brush for a sheer finish, or a sponge for a heavy finish. Start by applying thin layers -- you can always add more if you need it, but if you use too much it may look cakey!

When attempting to find your match, don't forget to check in indoor and outdoor light (sunlight) Smile

For the concealor, you can apply it with a taklon concealor brush, or I actually prefer a small eyeshadow brush.

I'm sure you'll love the Drama Queen liners -- if you just use them as a liner (not as a shadow) they're still perfect for neutral or understated looks! Of course if you want to experiment with bolder looks, try them as a shadow Wink You could apply them dry to make them softer, but I do recommend using a primer so the sparkles won't fall out into your eyes. Or you can mix a bit with the Eyeliner Sealant or any eye-safe liquid (water, contact lens solution, etc.) and apply them with a liner brush.

As for future orders, yes, samples are a great way to play with bright colors you might normally not try! But Aromaleigh also has tons of gorgeous neutrals if you'd prefer to stay in your safe zone as well Smile

Good luck and let us know if you have any questions!

Welcome! Be patient - minerals can take a bit of getting used to, if you're not used to working with loose powders. Apply thin, like girl_geek mentioned.

Most importantly - have fun. Peek through the Face of the Day posts and Galleries for endless inspiration. Hope we'll see looks from you soon!

Thank you everyone for the advice and the warm welcome Smile Well, I'm wearing my samples today and I'm impressed, especially with the concealer - I was trying to take all the glowing reviews with a grain of salt and I was particularly skeptical on the idea of powder concealer, but it really does the job! Jury's still out about the right shade of Voile - I've narrowed it down to 2YL, 2WL, and 2Y. Anyway, I've found that sampling things in the comfort of my home definitely is my kind of makeup shopping, as finding the shade that will look right on my light yellow-olive skin is usually a pain, and I don't have the time or the inclination to hang around cosmetic counters.

Geek_girl, you were right - I did love the liner! I applied it dry over my usual black pencil liner, which is creamy and does a nice job of preventing fallout. It certainly doesn't look like silly girl glitter (I'm 28 and I want to look it, dangit! I've always looked young for my age, which isn't as great as it sounds, at least at this point in my life) but instead it gives the liner an interesting tweak, and I'm definitely considering getting full sizes.

Yay, glad you liked the samples! Let us know if you need any help figuring out your foundation shade -- if none of them work for you and you can tell us what was wrong with them (e.g. too dark, too orange, etc.) we might be able to give you some more suggestions Wink

And about the glitter... eh, I'm 28, have also always looked young for my age, but I love colors and shimmer too much to stick with neutrals everyday Wink I just keep it more toned down at work -- e.g. shimmery neutrals are perfectly appropriate in my opinion, or muted (not really bright) colors, or just some color as a liner with a neutral lid... But of course, you should wear what you like! I'm just saying that you shouldn't refuse to even try a product because you think it may not be age-appropriate -- application techniques and what colors you pair it with make a big difference Smile

Congratulations on your new find! Aromaleigh is so much fun!

I wear my stuff from here daily now, and I haven't even scratched the tip of the iceberg because there's SO much available!

I just started playing with Aromaleigh blush, and it's great. I've been allergic to blushes no matter what I tried and this is the first brand that doesn't make me break out.

Have fun!

Finally! Settled on 2YL, ordered a full size along with a bunch of other stuff (I'm excited!) and now I will be staking out my mailbox waiting for my package of goodies to arrive. It was a bit more difficult to pick the right shade than I had anticipated, so I've been wearing a different sample every day for the past two weeks (and still have left over in the baggies, yea. My chagrin at having bought too many samples is assuaged). Other than the fact that certain shades made me look kinda haggard, this stuff performs beautifully, to the point that I still had some left on after an hour and a half of judo; after that I was convinced that this stuff is worth ordering from overseas.

It's too bad the Pure Hues are going though - I really should have found Aromaleigh sooner. Still, got here in time to grab a pot of Grass (insert joke), which is as far from my usual choices as you can get. It's such a pretty green, and I figure that if in the end it doesn't work that well for me (dark brown eyes, black brows - should look good, I think, but will see when it's here), at least it was ridiculously inexpensive.
