I've been using Everyday Minerals for years, but a friend highly recommended Aromaleigh so I'd like to give it a try. I'm so lost when it comes to finding a good foundation shade. I've been using Everyday Minerals Fair Medium (cool) shade, and I think it's a decent match, but it could be better. I'm pretty pale and definitely a cool/pink skin tone, but I think the EDM Cool Medium was just a bit *too* pink sometimes. Here's a picture in natural light.

Any advice on what shades to try? Right now I've got $32 in just foundation samples in my cart! Please help a poor woman out! Smile

Welcome! I was in the same boat a few days ago, but the ladies here got me squared away. If you know you are cool (as am I) then shades with pink are a definite to try. I've read that there aren't many P's or PL's out there, but you never know. If I had to choose for you, I would pick P, C, N, and L in levels 1 and 2. If you get those 8 samples to start, you can custom mix to get the right shade. Side note, someone told me the L blends are 50/50.

The best way I've read to determine a good match is to dip your finger into the powder and run a stripe from your cheek down to your neck. Do them side by side to get a good comparison. From there, you can usually determine what is NOT right. Try what looks close on your whole face, and if you don't yet have an exact match, try different mixes of your best matches. If it's too colorful, add linen. If it's "ashy", back off of the linen, or add more color. I ended up with a 2 part 2C to 1 part 2L mix.

You can lighten your mix with Ghost or Alabaster if you need too. From the picture it looks like you won't need to go lighter than a Level 1, but I'm new at this Smile

So, to review, my picks are 1P, 1C, 1N, 1L, 2P, 2C, 2N, and 2L. Good luck! Keep us up to date on how it turns out!

I'm not good with foundations, but in the picture you look like you could be a 2P to me.

Hi there!

I am a EDM convert. When I wore EDM, I wore Multi-tasking Neutral (Intensive) as my foundation and Intensive Fair as a concealer. Both of these were a bit too brown and powdery looking on me. I actually needed *pinker* and cooler to match me. I wear a 2PL Glissade in Aromaleigh... a perfect match for me.

I am thinking that you might find 2CL to be a good match for you. It is not as pink. Though Dizi's color advice is right on. You can mix the colors together, instead of ordering separate samples. 2P+2L = 2PL, for example. You can add Ghost or Alabaster to lighten if 2 is too dark.

HTH. And welcome to AL!

-Melissa

Thank you! I ordered samples of the 8 shades Dizi suggested, plus an embarrassing amount of eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick samples. I can't believe how many fantastic colors are available.

You look like a 2P, 2C, or 2CL to me. The great thing about mineral makeup is that you don't have to match your skin tone exactly. If you want to reduce the pink tones in your skin, you can get a color that has some yellow in it, to counteract the redness/pink. I can wear several shades well. 2Y, 2YL, 2W and 2N. Sometimes I wear them alone and sometimes I mix and match. But they're all closely related to each other, so they all work for me. Hope this helped. Samples are the way to go!

Foundation: 2y voile with a tiny amount of 2yl sometimes. (Can also wear 2W)

I've been playing with the samples, and so far, 2CL and 2L seem to come the closest. Here are two pics:

This is with 2CL, which looked a little too pigmented in places where I tend to get oily.

This is today's picture with 2L.

I got a ton of fun colors to play with in my first sample order, and the samples of the Les Papillons collection arrived today, too. Now I just need to find time to sit down with it all!

There are more pics on my blog, if anyone is interested. I tried to post the two here that showed the foundation best.

I think the 2L looks like a great match. I'm going to pop over to your blog to check out your other pics.

Okay, so I checked out your blog and saw another post of you wearing 2L. It looked really good there too. I think it's a keeper. Are you still liking it?
