Hi everyone, I found the Aromaleigh website recently through this blog: http://gothique.wordpress.com/ and have placed one order which is slowly making its way to me in New Zealand!

I didn't order any foundation samples, but after seeing all the pictures on the forum I really want to try some! I'm currently using BE and wear Fairly Light, and I have attached (hopefully!) a couple of pictures of me without makeup.

Can you knowledgable ladies suggest some shades for me to sample please?

Welcome to Aromaleigh!

I'd start by sampling the colors suggested in the BE to AL Conversion Chart.

I'd also recommend sampling both Glissade and Voile to see what you like best. While everyone is different, in general, Glissade tends to work well for dry or sensitive skin, and Voile for normal or oily skin. Voile also runs slightly lighter than Glissade (thought it may vary by color since some gals don't notice a difference).

*****
Voile: 1W+Alabaster ~ Clear & Warm Skintone ~ Blue Eyes ~ Dark Blonde Hair ~ 28 Years Old

Current AL obsessions:
Eyes: Cascade, Orinoco, Aurora, Coppelia, Entangle
Cheeks: Corset, Nectar, Myrtle, Sundaygirl
Lips: Notorious, Wallflower, Melancholia, Rosebud

I also wore BE's Fairly Light, and while the conversion chart recommends 2N, I think you should sample some level 1 shades too. I ended up being a 1Y with a bit of alabaster. It took a lot of sampling to find my match, so I recommend that you try both Voile and Glissade in a lot of different shades.

Good luck!

Thanks for the fast replies! My first order just got here and I found concealer shade #2 to be too pale for me and #3 was a better fit. Will this mean that I am closer to number 3s in foundation colour too?

Welcome to Aromaleigh! Smile

Do you want to match your foundation to your face, neck or chest? In the first photo, your face looks more pink while your neck/chest are more yellow/warm. In the second photo, your face and chest are both pinkish while your neck is yellowish.

I would guess that you're no darker than a level 2. I'm not familiar with level 1 and lighter.

Did you order the cream concealer or the Pure Cover powder? It confuses me how the concealers don't explicitly correspond with the foundations. Robyn wrote an excellent review of the cream concealers (available on Aromaleigh's website) that should provide some insight into their depths and coloring.

Sorry, that was the pure cover concealer. I'm not 100% certain that #3 is my right colour so I think I will order a few more samples!

My boyfriend always tells me that I have yellow skin, and there is some pink in there too, does that mean I am both warm and cool?

I would like to match the foundation to my face - in person they are quite close in colour, the biggest difference is that my face has freckles. Maybe I should just order samples of all the twos?

Welcome!! You're so beautiful, and I love your mischievous smile!

I'd recommend the sample sets - either in Glissade or Voile. You'll receive all the tones like cool, warm, neutral, linen, yellow, pink, and blends of these tones as well.

Lots of ladies have a hard time determining their shade. We may have been told we're cool when we're warm or vice versa. The easiest thing to do is stick a cotton swab into the sample baggie and put a "swipe" along your jawline. You'll be able to eliminate some shades right away, and begin narrowing it down to the ones that are close. Check them in a variety of light, particularly outdoors in natural light. Some lucky ladies are able to wear several shades, others find they need to make their own mixtures to get their perfect shade.

Most women find differences between their face and neck. If you match your face, you may want to "sweep" your kabuki down your neck just to make sure everything's well blended. Some ladies prefer to match their necks - it's all a personal preference. I find matching my face is easier, because I have some rosacea. But again, it's all what works best for you.

AL shades to run lighter than many other brands. I agree level 2's are a great place to start.

Once you've found your match, hang on to those samples! Your spring & summer are around the corner, so you may find your skin changes just a bit, or more if you get a tan. Many ladies find they have to tweak their foundation shade seasonally.

Good luck - once your samples arrive, don't hesitate to post pics if you need some help deciding between shades. We're always glad to help!!

Pure Cover numbers aren't related to foundation numbers. From the color description:

#2: Pale neutral ivory. (This color is a close match to 1N)

#3: Light neutral beige. (This color is a close match to 2N)

If #3 was close, then you probably are in the Level 2 range Smile

Thanks for the help everyone - I will order a bunch of samples and post pictures when I get them. Everyone here is very helpful and friendly!

One last question - is it worth waiting for it to go on sale or will that take a while? I'm loving the sales this week!

I think you should try 2W, 2Y, 2YL and 2N. If you can afford it, I'd order them now. There is only a $5 minimum right now, I think, and shipping is free for samples. I also wore Light/Fairy Light in BE. I can wear 2W, 2Y, 2YL and 2N all very nicely. And you can mix these together in any way you want.

Foundation: 2y voile with a tiny amount of 2yl sometimes. (Can also wear 2W)
Lip Favs: Lollipop, Wallflower, Pinafore, Limbo, Zest
Blush Favs: Rococco, Tawny, Epitome
Eye Favs: Damask, Lola, Fiona, Ariel, Longing, Fairy, Seaglass, Shell, Willow, Marigold, Lisianthus & more to come!
