Well, after I found a great shade by mixing #1 & #2 of the Pure Cover Concealer, I'm running into a problem with it under my eyes. It's really settling into the lines and making my under eye area look kind of crepey. I wear an eye cream, so the issue isn't dryness. It's not creasing - it's accentuating the lines, though.

Any ideas of how I can eliminate the problem? I tried putting on foundation first, concealer second, then I tried concealer first and foundation second - neither method helped. I put on extra eye cream - that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

EDIT - I should also add that I know it's not the AL concealer, because BE did the same thing under my eyes. It's my under eye area, and I don't know how to fix it.

How do you apply it? Since I find this concealer to be quite covering I use coquilles to help correct the discoloration then apply my concealer VERY sparingly with a fiber optic brush. Then I kind blend it all together with my foundation applied with my kabuki.

Right now, I'm using the BE concealer brush, and just my eye cream, the foundation, and then concealer.

Which fiber optic brush do you use? From your description, do you do Coquille, then concealer, then foundation? I have really fair skin, with dark purple circles under my eyes, and my eyes are big, but sort of deep set. Which Coquille should I sample?

Thanks for your help, this has been driving me crazy for years, LOL!

When I apply my coquilles I use a kabuki unless I am spot concealing (blemishes and such). Then to apply pure cover under my eyes I use a small fiber optic eyeshadow brush. You could probably also use a larger fluffy eyeshadow brush.Basically you want something that is going to disperse the pigment evenly.I also got that crepey look when I put too much or used too small of a brush.

I also have fair skin and my under eye circles tend to go purpley. But I also have yellow in my skin and my eye area tends to be darker in general. The yellow usually works for me but I usually just apply the same mix (all of them except for blue)all over my face and that does the job.I definitely reccommend sampling all of them and seeing what works.

I hope I described everything well for you! Keep asking questions if not.Or maybe someone else will chime in.

Melissa, thanks! Smile

I don't think I'll wind up doing Coquille all over my face, because I have a color-correcting sunblock by DDF that I wear over my moisturizer. Plus, I've already been getting really good compliments on the 1N/2N mix I'm using, so I'm hesitant to mess with that. I think I just need to deal with the undereye issue for now. Is it the yellow that kills that, or the green? I always get it confused, I think that's another reason why I've never bothered doing a lot of color correcting under my eyes when I should have!

Which fiber optic eyeshadow brush are you using - the ultra-cute or the ultra-posh?

Thanks again!

Look at a color wheel -- colors on opposite sides (contrasting colors) or that are almost opposite of each other cancel each other out! So...

To cancel out redness, use a yellow or green product.

To minimize blue or green tones in dark circles, use a pink, peachy-pink, or peach concealor.

To hide purple tones, try a more yellowish concealor.

If your dark circles are more brown, I think lavender might help? I'm not sure on that one Smile

Also, your undertones may affect it too -- some girls swear by the Pink Cream Concealor for dark circles, but it's a bit *too* pink for my warm skin no matter how light I apply it!

Are you open to trying other products? I never got the Pure Cover to work for me (maybe I just wasn't applying it right) but for undereyes, I first apply a very light layer of the Cream Concealor in Lite, which matches my skintone but doesn't quite cancel out the blue tones. Then I dust a little Coquille Powder on top (a mix of Rose and Nectarine for me) -- the peachy-peach tones help cancel the blue and set the cream concealor so it doesn't get all cakey or streaky. (However, the Coquilles by themselves don't have quite enough coverage, which is why I add the cream concealor). I don't even bother to apply Voile on top, the Lite+Rose+Nectarine seems to blend into my skin just fine on its own!

I've also noticed that the Coquilles (or maybe any powder will work) help set the gel eyeliners! Yesterday I only used Lite and forgot the Coquille, and the gel liner on my lower lid smudged and wore off during the day -- but it lasts all day when I use Coquille!

Thanks so much, ladies!

Yes, I'm open to other products, but I will say that cream concealors *never* worked on me - the mineral powders, while I'm still having issues, are 100% better. It sounds like what you and Melissa are saying is true - I may need to experiment around with a few of the Coquilles (thank goodness for samples!).

I know yellow is supposed to cancel out my purple circles, but you are correct when you say that some girls swear by pink concealor. I used to work at Estee Lauder about four years ago, and their soft pink concealor was they used to swear by too. Our trainer told us that during the day, if we ever started to look tired, to just grab the pink concealor and do a quick touch up so we didn't look like a hot mess in front of the customers, LOL!

Looks like I'm off to order more samples, ha! Thanks again!

I'm not sure if you tried this or not, but you could try mixing the concealer with some moisturizer and patting it under your eyes. I know some people use this technique to prevent the makeup from settling in fine lines.

I mix shea butter with a tad of glycerine and use for under eyes. THen put the concealer on. Then the concealer doesn't really settle in if I don't powder it too much. or if I powder it, then go over it with a makeup sponge.

Have you tried using the silicone based liquid foundation primer after moisturizer and before the concealer?

I did try adding a little moisturizer, which just made it cake up, and didn't really cover well.

I haven't tried the foundation primer because silicone primers always make me break out. Plus I hate the feel of too much stuff on my face - which, at this point, I've got my moisturizer, my sunblock, the foundation, and then the dusting powder.

Also, it's not been a problem with the foundation on my face - I'm lucky that the AL has been working so well that it stays on all day without my needing to prime, so if I have one less thing on my skin, that works better for me. The problem is only the undereye area getting crepey looking, so I really only want to deal with that. I *did* try using my eyeshadow primer under the eyes to see if that helped, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

I got my Coquille samples, and I've been trying them out, but I'm still not sure. I'm barefaced right now, but I think I need to see with the rest of my makeup on - but it may be down between the yellow and the pink. Then again, I still have to try the green and the peach. I dunno Good thing I got the sample set!

Hi Lisa,

I meant try the foundation primer specifically under your eyes and nowhere else. I can't wear it either on my face or I break out. I was totally bummed when I thought I would have no use for it, until I tried it under my eyes one day when they were looking particularly puffy. It really helped to preven creasing. Also, I use cream concealers under my eyes, because powder concealers do cake up for me.

Aaah, I gotcha! Smile Actually, I did do my eyeshadow primer under my eyes again, which didn't seem to work well the first time I tried it, but I think I didn't give it enough time to settle into my skin. I tried it again, and it worked much better. I still think some color correcting might help me too, though, so today I'll try the Coquilles along with my concealer when I do my face.

Edit: because full sentences rock! Razz

Good morning! Smile

I think I'm pretty much set on the Rose Coquille as the one! Oddly enough, despite my purple circles under the eyes, the Jaune didn't do much to help. But the Rose cancelled out the colors and really brightened around my eyes! Today I tried the Nectarine (I'm gradually working my way through one color each day under my eyes, before foundation and concealer), and again, not much to report. Tomorrow, I move onto Lilas, and then Vert and Bleu to at least see how they all work. But I'm guessing that Rose is going to be the best for me. Just wanted to say thanks to you ladies for steering me towards them!

Glad you found something that worked! If you're happy with Rose then go for it; if you're not quite sure then remember you can mix colors too! I use a mix of Rose+Nectarine to get a peachy-pink color -- Rose worked well but just didn't blend into my skintone as much as Rose+Nectarine does!

Thanks! Rose really blended in perfectly - it brightened up my eye area a lot, and you couldn't even see it! I'm tempted to not even try the next three colors, but I may as well before I order, just to be certain.

I'd be really surprised if Lilas, Vert, or Bleu worked for undereye circles since they all contain blue tones, surely you don't want to add blue there Wink Although it doesn't hurt to try if you already have the samples!

Vert, however, is great for hiding red tones if you have any blemishes, and maybe it would work for more reddish undereye circles. I think most people use Lilas and Bleu all over their face to get a pale, ethereal effect Smile

Hmmm... then maybe I won't try them out for full day and full face makeup. Maybe I'll just do them tonight after I wash my face, and then do a little concealer over them.

Lisa, I tried for years to find a concealer that worked for me and the pink cream concealer is the best ever for me. I use it every day. After I shower I put a little oil mix (hazelnut, rosehip seed and sweet almond) on my face. I've always been oily, but I'm 55 now and find that a little oil really helps me. I let that sink in for a bit then I use the taklon concealer brush and just a tiny touch of the pink cream concealer. I dot it on the inner corners of my eyes first, then dot along the dark circles from the inner corner to about halfway under my eyes. I dot and dot and brush a little - I'm a blender! Then I do my silk powder and foundation and go from there. Works perfectly for me. I do find that that if I use very much at all it settles in my fine wrinkles - but if I stay light with it my eyes look better than they ever have.

54 yrs. old, natural silver highlights. Green eyes, cool skin tone. Level 4 Voile 50/50 C/L is my perfect match foundation. Fave AL product: Nocturne! My YLBB color: Impatiens. Fave eye combos: Blue Coquille with Tide Matte, Pearl with Vintage, Ophelia with Rockbottom, Bouganvillea with anything!
