My skin is normally so oily that I have no idea how to apply makeup on dry skin Wink But lately, sometimes I get some patches of dry, flakey skin from my acne meds. (However, those flakey patches still get oily later in the day, ugh!) The problem is, lots of times I can't even see the flakes until AFTER I apply my first layer of mineral makeup -- so by this time, I've already washed my face, applied acne meds, sunscreen, etc. I swear my skin looks smooth beforehand and something about the makup makes flakes appear out of nowhere! Is there a way to fix the makeup or flakies so it looks a bit better without washing everything off and starting over? Or am I just out of luck?

I guess I need to find a moisturizer that works with my skintype and can help prevent the flakies.... I also exfoliate in the morning just by washing with a washcloth; I'm hesitant to do too much physical exfoliation since I'm on retinoids (Tazorac), I don't want to peel all my skin off Wink

Having small areas of dry skin when you're normally oily has got to be tough to figure out, but I'm sure there are some ladies who have this issue that can help.

My skin is dry - so what I do might not work for your oily areas. I recently had some small areas that went to hyperdry, I just changed my moisturizer to a more intense nighttime one, instead of my usual lighter-weight daytime moisturizer. Apply super thin layers of foundation, which you probably already do. Try a mist of Mineral Setting Spray once or twice during the day to help rehydrate areas.

Hope someone can give you advice which will be helpful to you!

I get the flaky, dry patches from time to time. And I used to a lot... especially when I was pregnant. What I found was that I was overcleansing. So I switched to a mild, creamy cleanser and that helped. The other thing that made a difference was applying Nocturne at night.

If you notice the patches before putting on make-up, I recommend spot moisturizing with a light, gel moisturizer in the flaky-prone areas. If it's after you put on your foundation, then a spritz of the mineral setting spray on those areas may help minimize a powdery, patchy appearance. I think that the wet-application technique that Miss K just blogged about may be of help, too. (I've only just started to experiment with that myself.)
