As I said in my introduction, I found this website while searching for makeup to wear at my upcoming wedding. Now, given the circumstances, I'd like to find a look that looks great both in person and in photographs.

I don't have oily skin--in fact, it's kind of on the dry side, especially during winter. However, I've noticed that in flash photography, my skin often looks really oily and red. Has anyone else run into this problem?

So what I'm looking for are tips to create a matte look that will look good in photographs without drying out my skin--any suggestions?

I'm hoping that good photography will minimize the problem, but you never know...

Hello and welcome Godiva!
I can't say I've had your exact issue with flash photography, however I do have a few suggestions for you. First off to counteract the redness issues, I'd try at least a first/primer coat in a Y (yellow tone). Either 1Y G/V (Glissade/Voile) or Jaune Coquille might work well here, others to consider are Oyster and Flaxen MES (Matte EyeShadows). The coquilles have a diffusing property, if overdone (especially as a top/finishing layer) it could impart more shine. However this diffusing property can create a wonderfully airbrushed glow effect on film as well as in person. Glissade has a more "dewey" natural finish and is less drying than Voile, which is more matte. My suggestion is to use a combination/mixture of the two. This results in the best of both worlds, the matte finish you're after with the least drying effects. Many who use Glissade in the winter add Voile for summer for the extra mattifying effect.

Hope you find these suggestions helpful!

Classic pale Ivory with freckles & pink flush tones. Now that I'm gradually graying, my hair color is constantly evolving. Currently a dark golden brunette (think a darker Mocha with some lighter golden brown highlights). Blue/Grey Eyes with flecking of brown, gold & khaki in the iris.

With fall finally settling in here, I'm about a 2 level Y(3)/L(1) at the moment, wearing more of the neutral tones-warmer neutral tones. In my natural state, I'm a true Winter from CMB. But I can easily get away mixing things up seasonally. White Gold/Platinum/Silver for jewelry, but can (and do) easily wear copper, rose gold and antiqued gold tones.

I've found that photography just seems to emphasize the things that I try not to notice in the mirror.

So I'd work on evening out the skin tone with ideas like the one's Ellas recommending. Also, working with different finishing powders, (all can be sampled), will give you a slightly different finish, matte-wise.

I've felt like any photos of me look better since using Aromaleigh foundations. I felt like I looked shinier prior to using this foundation. And I live in a very humid area in the summer. And I love to dance, so at weddings or other events pics are often taken after I've been heavily sweating. Aghh!

You've got time to play and sample and even take pics before the big day.
