I'm so disappointed. In December, I had my facial veins (visible capillaries) zapped with a laser and it didn't do ANYTHING. I'm so discouraged. Has anyone had to go more than once to even see a little difference? In the past, it's worked on my chest, but this time, nothing at all, face or chest, and the same girl did it. She was so thorough too, and went all over my face. Frown

Hmm, ask if they'll do it again for a reduced or free rate? There are other ways to minimize them, and I've found AL covers the little bit of broken caps I have, along with the ruddy skin I have as well. Along with avoiding things that agravate my skin, and being gentle on it. They should be able to at least give you a partial refund though!

I have had better results with cosmetic products, like Cellex-C and Kinerase, etc. I have little teensy capillaries right around the nasolabial folds and they have been there forever ... like since I was in my teens. Have something to do with allergies, I think. My latest is trying Lactic acid peels, but I'm only beginning that....

Pinky, those 2 products you mentioned seem to have vitamin c in them. Is this correct? I guess I could try using my C serum specifically for facial veins. I've been taking extra vitamin c with rose hips & bioflavinoids, but it's done nothing. I heard a dr. say the only way to get rid of them is with a laser, that no cream, serum, etc. will do it. But then, I got lasered and it did nothing! So frustrating!

Kitty,
I think that most of the laser treatments suggest multiple treatments in a series for best results (and more cash for them).

I can't get rid of my melasma, and my derm told me that IPL was the only thing that would work if Hydroquinone didn't. But that I'd have to get a few treatments.

They sure do make their money somehow!

I have them around my nose. I had it done once (at a discount) and it did nothing but make the red lines less defined (so now I have curvey capillaries instead of straight ones). I am thinking after 3 or more treatments this might work, but I am not about to spend that money now (no more discount after attempt #1).

Thanks for your responses, gals.
Horselover, have you had any luck with the saw palmetto reducing your oily skin? I've now been on it for one month and it's done nothing. I just finished the bottle, so I think I will try the GNC brand that was being raved about online, but after that, I'm done trying.

Well, I had my facial veins re-lasered yesterday at no charge. I saw a difference right away on some of them, so hopefully, the others will fade over the next 2 weeks. The machine just wasn't set high enough on the first round because the girl didn't want to over-do it. But this setting is perfect & she wrote it down in case I need to go again. It sure hurt on the ones in and around my nose, but it was only for a minute or two and I'm very, very pleased. Also, there was no charge because nothing happened the first time.

I am so glad you got this redone! And happy that the results are what you desired and expected!

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

Thanks, Bridget! I hope they stay gone permanently, but I don't know if they will. If not, I'll just have them done again. I'm going to research another place though & see if they have an even more effective method right now. I know the industry is always improving on such things. I have a feeling I can find a better place with more up-to-date machines. I know people have all kinds of ideas as to what causes facial veins, but I think I agree with the people/doctors who say it's due to thin skin, aging, having a tendency to them for whatever reason, genetics being one. They are not only on my face. I have a couple on the top of my shoulders and a whole bunch on my upper chest. I think wherever skin is the thinnest, they show through because they are very near the skin's surface. Also, it could also be due to having weak vein walls. Sigh.

I've had the itty bitty veins around my nose laser'ed by a dermatologist. YOWZA -- man, that hurts! It feels like someone is snapping a very nasty rubber band on your skin at an amazingly fast rate!

I have mild rosacea. The Doc. told me that I'd need at least 2 treatments. I had that done and, yes, I did notice a difference after the 2nd treatment.

At the same time, she said that the results are by no means permanent and would need to be re-done in 2 - 5 years. (Of course, everyone is different.)

Hmmmm, given that I now wear AL products and can conceal these things withOUT any pain with just a teeny bit of concealer (or foundation, for that matter!), I don't know if I'll go back for more laser/OUCH treatment. Yup, if and when that treatment becomes less painful, I may consider it.

Since I had it done (2-ish years ago), the results have stayed the same.

LOL, if anyone knows of any new laser treatments for redness that doesn't HURT LIKE HE$$, do let me know! I'm hoping that technology will catch up as all of us happy 40, 50 and 60+ year-olds want to look a bit better!

This post was a long time ago --- I haven't been to the forum in quite a while. (Another topic would be to ask me about my transition from a PC to a Mac!! .... ehhe)

49 + 3 (wow, how did that happen?) - strawberry blonde hair. Definately a "cool", skin-wise. 2P foundation. Green/blue eyes(depending on clothes). I look good in white and black - usually wear jewel tones. Some sun damage (wrinkles) from growing up in the mucho solar Southwest.

Oily skin (always have, always will I suppose!) Mild rosacea, under control as long as I use an Rx cleanser and gel.

Thanks for your post, Cinmar. I'm happy and satisfied right now. My veins do not look like they are getting worse. I would like the ones on my upper chest done again, but I don't know...some that were zapped didn't even go away. I wonder if Retinol would do the trick...

A friend had it done and done and done and done. She never felt anything even though it was supposedly set high. It is better, but it is not gone the way the picture in the derm's office showed. It cost her $700. I don't know if she thought it was worth it. I know she isn't booking any more follow up appts (every 6 mos or a year or so.)

She basically had her neck and chest done. It has improved it, but not totally. It is better though.

When I started the IPL for my melasma she set the unit at 12, thinking that I had delicate skin. (I don't!) We are now up to 16, and the melasma is really starting to break up. It's been my 5th time, and she's comped me 2 treatments because the first two didnt do much.

Last time, I also had her do the capillaries around my nose= something new that just appeared, yuck! It didn't hurt, just the general hot flash tingle sensation. I notice a little reduction, I think it will probably take at least 3-4x. I plan on getting it done in tandem with the rest of the package I got for my melasma- I HOPE that I only need the last 3 treatments... fingers crossed!!!

good luck!

Yeah, at this point in my life, I don't have that kind of money to spend on spider veins (i.e. 3-4 treatments)! Hehe, but I do have aromaleigh foundation. (And I'll be looking into concealer too soon). The YL foundation I use makes the capillaries disappear Smile
