I just wore my new Elemental Lustre (Astonish, yay butterfly hunt!) all over my lid today. Now usually I just use the Elementals as accent colors. I lined with cocoa bean PH because I didn't want the look to be too dramatic and cocoa bean isn't very dark. However, it is very shiney when wet-lined! So my lids just looked shiney shiney.

So when you guys use Elementals as all over lid colors, what do you usually line with? I don't want to use a color like Magnetism because I want to keep the look from being too dramatic. Thanks!

Oh, and if you feel like it, what would you recommend as crease shades to use with Elementals? Mattes?

When I wear EL's, I usually wear EL's in both the lid and crease. I like lots of shimmer! I would also consider using a darker Frost or Lustre, but I don't really like the look of pairing lots of shimmer (EL) with mattes. I usually use an Eye Plush or Allure Perle (nude on me) from crease to brow. I normally use either Chocolate Mousse or Black Cherry gel liner. Black Cherry normally looks like a soft black on me -- only rarely under certain lights is the red shimmer noticeable. Neither are very dramatic on me if I thinly line the upper lid and only line the outer 1/3 of the lower lid -- these two liners have been my daily liners lately, actually!

My two favorite EL combos are Entangle on lid and Torment in crease (depending on how well you blend it, it can be either very dramatic or surprisingly neutral, and either way makes blue or green eyes pop!), and Abyss in crease/outer lid and Startle on inner lid.

I also love the bronze-y EL's, like Fraud, but sadly I don't wear them as often. Not sure why, I should start wearing them more! In my current avatar I'm wearing Fraud on the lid, one of the Rocks blacks in the crease and wetlined. It was part of a challenge look -- the challenge was to pair a "scary" color (for you) with a "safe" color. Black was my scary color (always worried it's too harsh for my pale coloring) and Fraud was the safe color Smile

When I wear the Elementals, I line with a matte, my DQ Topaz or the dark Rocks! (like Londondungeon or Backinblack.)

I use the Eye Plushes as a base and blender if I want to knock back the Elemental shine or so my old lid creases don't show. Smile

I have used Stillinhollywood Rocks! with Entangle before and got a beautiful crease color.

I used Astonish today as an all over lid color from lashes to crease, then VERY softly up to my brow. Put estranged (a matte) in the middle third of my lid on the diagonal, then did an exagerrated outer V in a color similar to the old elfin, only more plum brown base than orange brown base (it was in my bag - I get the weirdest collection of colors going on in there). Looked great! Nice and light on the lid, a burst of citrusy green, then the soft smokey plummy brown. Lots of compliments today. No liner - didn't have time. Just TONS of black mascara.

it was good.

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?

When I wear the ELs, I either (1) don't use liner or (2) line with something non-shiny/metallic like the gel liners (black out or chocolate mousse), ebony, willow, umber or one of the Drama liners (not DQ because they are sparkly). A matte crease color (slate for example) works well for simply defining the crease without creating noticeable stand-out color. Some of the ELs can be rubbed down to a dark matte all by themselves so usually I just apply it to the lid and crease both and then blend like crazy in the crease. It's like getting two colors in one.

When I wear EL's I usually just smudge liner (pencil or the indelible gels) right into my lashline. That way I get a little definition without there being a "line" if that makes sense.I also use a ton of mascara!

I like to use a matte in my crease but UNDER the EL's,not on top.I think they are such beautiful shadows though that just wearing one by itself stands out!

I like the ELs mostly as a highlight. I mostly use them lightly all over my lid, then use a matte in the crease with a thin line of a gel liner. I also really like to use the Brownie points cream shadow from my lashes to above the crease, then a dab of EL below my browbone and in the middle of my mobile lid and then blend.

What if you used Umber as a liner with the elementals? That might be very pretty on you.

Thank you everybody! I would have liked to use the chocolate mousse gel liner, but sadly don't own it. I have a bronzey gel liner but it is too shiney.

I like the idea that several of you suggested to use umber as a liner. Maybe I'll use that on top of the bronzey gel liner to increase wear.

I think the idea that you have, armywife, to use just a bit of liner to get definition is a great idea and then I could go for a darker liner like magnetism. Also, I agree with you that it is best to do the matte crease before the elemental. I used to do that, but hadn't worn elementals in so long and forgot to do the crease first last time.

Bridget, that combo sounds great! I don't think it would work on me but I bet it looked lovely on you.

Runaround and Robyn, I popped in a drama cocoa sample in my last order. I bet it will look great. Thanks!

I'll try that rubbing down trick, Robyn!

GG, I thought about using an elemental with a dark frost but was afraid it would be too shiney. I like that Torment, Entangle combo.

Lin, that brownie points combo sounds really neat! I can't afford to get cream shadows or gel liners right now, but I could use a brownish color in place of that cream shadow.

Thanks everyone! Now I have many ideas to work with Smile

I grabbed up more gels last time there was the 25+20% off deals. Love them. I'd use the choc mousse under the elementals and many frost colors. You will love that when you can get around to getting it. In the meantime, umber may work well as it is a similar color. Or latte.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this ... Entangle is great for this, blend extra well in the crease and it makes its own crease color Big Grin (Many of the Bete Noires are like this as well!)

Hey y'all,

I wore Astonish as an all over lid color lightly and then applied the shadow even more lightly with heavy blending into the crease. A light sweep on the brow bone. I applied AL's shadow primer b.c. the elementals apply more evenly with it. However, creasing occured, so next time I am going to wear an indelible before the AL shadow primer.

I used that bronzey liner plus Umber on top. Perfect! I don't even want choc mousse now (mainly b.c. I already have 4 liners and don't want the ones I already have to dry out before I use most of them) The umber made the line soft. I did the liner first and then Astonish to further soften and blend the look. I wore notorious as a lippie with a green shirt. Absolute elegant perfection, and great for a first day of classes!

Thank you so much for all of your help, and intend to keep on experimenting the elementals!
