So I see makeup as an expression. In my case, usually an edgey, young, fun, expression. However, I am living at home right now (moving out in 2 months and counting!!!) Anyway, I was wearing that midsummer look that I just posted, and my dad was like "you have a lot of eye makeup on". My response "yes". His response "are you going anywhere"? I don't know, I just think it's fun, and I want to have fun as long as I can get away with it until I may eventually have to work in corporate America... I was just wondering if any of you had experienced similar reactions from loved ones. I mean, where is the law against wearing bright, dramatic, and/or dark eyeshadow (and nail polish for that matter, I am totally rocking yellow right now Wink)

This made me laugh! I have a little collection of bright, dark and generally really dramatic lip colors.Im talking deep, almost black raspberries, tomatoes reds, hot pinks, etc. I sometimes will put one of these on if Im feeling kinda sassy.Even if I am not going anywhere.Hey gotta look good when I get mail!

But my mom will go "where are you going?" I also sometimes put on my hubbys favorite during movie night at home b/c he hates not being able to kiss me when we go out.

haha, HL - typical dad or man, really.

Often times on the weekends when we are just going to work around the yard, I'll get the "you know we're only doing the lawn, right?" while I put my makeup on. My response, "yup". Ends the conversation and I'm the prettiest lady on the block while I weed my garden. Big Grin

lol... Actually, my husband loves it when I wear dark or bright eyeshadows, so I always do something bold for our date nights!

When I go home to visit my parents, I usually keep my makeup more simple (especially since our typical weekend visits involve going to their church on Sundays). For my whole life, my mom has never worn much makeup -- some foundation and face stuff, eyeliner, mascara, subtle blush and that's it, so I wasn't sure what she'd think of me wearing bolder looks! But about 6 months ago or so she started wearing eyeshadow again (she used to wear it as a teenager) and her favorites are actually colors, not neutrals - lots of blue, green, purple, and pink! lol So I might be a bit more experimental with my makeup on our next trip home Wink (And yes, I've been keeping her stocked up on Aromaleigh samples! hehe)

Haha, Melissa, I like the lippie for movie night Wink Yeah, NUTC, I think it is men in general... GG congrats to your mom! I've successfully gotten my mom to wear purple eyeliner once or twice when she went out and I did her makeup. Otherwise, nope! Oh well. I guess I mean I feel like their questions mean I look ugly or weird, believe it or not. But that is another story. I just have to wait until I get out of the house. Then I'll really start playing around Mwahahaha ! Thanks for your responses!

Ahhh, I know what you are saying now - about the ugly/weird thing. I felt the same way because I never really wore makeup before - def not eyeshadow. so if Chris says something about it - I just assume it means it looks like too much or it's unattractive.

Honestly, I think that thought process comes from lack of self esteem - something I've struggled with for years. But now I figure as long as when I look in the mirror I'm happy than it's all good. and for what it's worth, I think you always look gorgeous in your posts!

Thanks NUTC! Haha, Cin, I can see that. If only I started with the makeup earlier. Oh, and my self esteem isn't as high as it could be, but I am actually certain my dad thinks I look weird half the time. He actually said, "aren't you wearing too much eyeliner?" Yeah, but he is a guy and a dad. Oh well!

But I like your thought process "But now I figure as long as when I look in the mirror I'm happy than it's all good." Wink And thanks for the compliment Smile

My mom never really said anything about my mu unless I had too much foundation on.Oh,I could have loads of eyeliner or crazy eyeshadow but she hated when I had too much foundation....

My grandparents on the other hand still make comments.Either I have "too much" lipstick on or my eyeshadow is too dark....But then again they also try to "scratch off" my tattoos... Roll Eyes

When you get out I say go nuts!!!

I think it's the same with my mom. She just calls my makeup my "war paint."

I'm with you. I see makeup as an expression. I work in video game development and love the fact that I've been able to do all the things my parents said I'd have to stop doing:
dyeing my hair funky colors
getting up late
staying up late
etc

I love the fact that I can wear bold looks to work. Everything you see me post I wear to work and usually get compliments on Wink

So I'd say, keep being you! Keep wearing what you like. Makeup is art Wink

That's awesome, Zhariel. Big Grin

I feel the same way about makeup. Fortunately, my mom like bold colors, too, so we do just fine.

I've always called my make up war paint. ROFLMAO ROFLMAO

I have all my make up in a big fishing tackle box which has been dubbed "The War Chest".

My husband sometimes comments, but he usually doesn't notice. I gave up my Dunkin Donuts addiction for Aromaleigh so he really doesn't care. I spend what was my "coffee money" on AL instead.

Now my physical therapist is a different story all together. He's gay and doesn't miss a single flippin' thing. Mike is hysterical, he has told me to bring in my "War Chest" & binder when I have to be hooked up to russian current for 1/2 hour so we can play.

I'm not sure what the medical name for it is. He calls it "Russian Current", I call it being electrocuted. LOL

Basically he attaches electrodes to certain places on my leg and use electricity to stimulate the nerves & muscles. It helps to keep them from atrophying since I don't have control those muscles and have to force them to move manually.
