For those of you who have Black Cherry, I was wondering: from a "normal" viewing distance of a few feet away, does Black Cherry look black or does it actually look reddish? Like, if you were talking to someone, would they think you were wearing black eyeliner or is it noticeably different than black?

I am debating on whether I want to add it to my wishlist or not... Chocolate Mousse (brown-black) is already very bold on me, and I'm not sure if I need another almost-black color!

It does look more black than red on me, but I put it on fairly thick, and my choice of shadow colors may make it look more blackish too.

I think if you are standing far away, it looks like a solid black, however if you step closer you can see little sparkles of red. It's very subtle though, not like OMG my liner is red. HTH

On me it looks black from really far away. But as you get closer, it looks slightly red. Really close up (and in good light) it's black with reddish sparkles.

If your worried about wearing it to work (because of the color) my dad says (he works in an office where everyone seems to be dressed to the nines all the time lol) the color is fine for a work place

edit: I forgot to mention, it looks really pretty smudged

Actually, I'd prefer it to be more red than black -- I don't like black liners on me (too harsh for my pale coloring!), but I do like burgundy / reddish colors Smile

I don't know if you have Magnetism or not, but it is similar to that intensity. It is more of a charcoal that a black. Black Cherry looks great with so many eyeshadows, I reach for it frequently.

GG, I really like Russet PH as a reddish-burgundy liner. The color in the jar is pretty but it looks even more wonderful on. It is a much softer red than Black Cherry and doesn't have the black. I wore it today as a crease color and am always amazed at how much I like it. Kathy

Thanks Calypso! I have a few reddish minerals that make good liners (though I'm not sure if I've tried Russet), but I like the convenience of a gel liner for everyday looks (faster than wetlining for me!) Smile

I think Black Cherry would definitely work for what you're wanting then. I really love Black Cherry Smile

Ack, don't tell me that! Razz I already have way too mu sitting in my shopping cart just waiting for me to click OK, and the gel liners are on sale this week.... Too tempting!

Whenever I place larger orders like this, I always tell myself that it will be the last order for quite a while, and that I'm actually saving money on shipping by placing one larger order instead of multiple small ones! Of course, then I always end up placing another small order not longer after the big one. *sigh*

OK, I finally got Black Cherry when it went on sale last time. However (and I hate to complain since I obviously love most AL products), this is not what I expected -- it just looks like a dull grayish brown on me, with no hint of burgundy or red as I expected. Is it just an application issue? I applied it with the thin liner brush, so would a push technique be better or something?

Wow.

For me, it looks like shimmering black cherry.

I use either a slanted eye shadow brush (like maybe you'd use for an outer vee), a bent eye liner brush, or a thin liner brush.

Try using a slanted eye shadow brush or a push brush to see how it works?

I'm sorry that it's not looking good for you.

Honestly, I wasn't initially impressed with Black Cherry either. But the more I used it, the more versatile it seemed to be, and now it is one of my favorites. It goes with all kinds of colors. I love it with browns, plums, wine, peachy colors, terracotta colors. It goes well with a lot of the Elementals too. I use it at least 2-3 times a week.

Keep experimenting with it with different colors and hopefully should grow on you. It is a perfect liner color for fall! Smile

Hmm - sounds like it perhaps wasn't enough on the brush - like how certain shadows get smoked and lose their color and spark if we over blend. I'd keep trying - it's a very lovely color, and it will look great with your eyes and complexion once we figure out how to preserve the black cherry spark and goodness!

My coloring - Fair, naturally curly dark red hair, freckles (light golden), combo to oily skin, use 1W Glissade and/or Voile, although I can and have worn 1Y, 1Y/L, and 1Y/L/00 at different times. Would describe my coloring as neutral - not a classic Autumn, not really a Winter, maybe more of a Late Fall?
