I got my first samples of the lip tints and decided to try shesaknockout yesterday. I'm one of those people who are really sensitive to smells. While I could smell the chocolate/citrus scent, it also had a really strong chemical smell to me which I've never gotten from my other lippies. Once I applied it, it felt like my lips were burning and itching. After a few minutes I wiped it off because it was so uncomfortable and I kept getting wafts of chemical smell that were really bothersome.

This is the first time I've had a reaction like this to any AL product, but this is also the first Rocks! that I've used. I'm not sure if I should try the other sample (fictionromance) to see if it's just shesaknockout that's like that for me. My lips are usually a little dry but I've never had them burn/itch like that from anything else.

Shaden, I don't know what it could be. Rocks lippies and AL lipsticks contain the same pigments, but Rocks lippies do not contain white, or brown shades that mute the tones.

As far as the fragrance, all AL lip products are scented with mandarin essential oil and cocoa absolute- both of these are all natural.

I read somewhere else that someone else mentioned not liking the fragrance of the lip tints, but it is no different than what is put in the lipsticks, lipglosses, etc.

So I am unsure about this for you, because there is nothing different in these than other AL lippies- there are actually fewer types of pigments.

Hope this helps,

K

I have my weird 'D&C Blue 1' allergy. I noticed that is is listed as an ingredient in both the Rocks! lip tints, and the Aromaleigh Color Infusion Botanical Lipsticks..

That is why I haven't dared to order eitrher kind - I know Blue1 will give me problems.. Not all of a sudden, but eventually I will start itching, blisters, or red velts will break out at the corners of my mouth.

Are there any shades that have Blue1, or any shades that definitely have not. I'd love to try both kinds but have been afraid of =)

So far Blue1 is the only ingredient I know for sure I can't handle.

Regarding the scent of the Rocks lip tints, I also noted a slight chemical odor that I've never experienced with any other Aromaleigh lip product (and I've pretty much tried them all!). I'm not particularly sensitive (and I've certainly smelled worse e.g. Nars lip lacquers) so it doesn't really bother me but it's not the usual rich chocolate-orange scent to which I'm accustomed.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll do a swatch on my arm with them and see what happens. Hopefully it was just a fluke or maybe something on the brush.

All I've noticed is that the orange/cocoa scent is stronger in the lip tints, but definitely not more chemically. It's just like the lipglosses, only a bit stronger. It kind of reminds me of candy...which I always like. :}

I too, revisited the product and smelled all batches trying to find a chemical odor. I did not find one. What I did find was a more prevalent green mandarin fragrance than the lipsticks or lipglosses.

Essential oils are natural and batch to batch change. One bottle can be gentle, one bottle can be more sharp and green.

I used a new bottle of green mandarin when I produced this batch of lip tints.

I honestly think that is what is being perceived as "chemical"- a sharp citrus fragrance. We all perceive fragrance differently. Some might think something smells like citrus, others like candy, etc...

I get a lot of unique perspectives on scent with the aromatherapy lipbalms... I've heard customers commenting on the balms smelling like a lot of unusual things based on their perception of them. One of the most unusual ones was the french cocoa bliss smelling like wet cardboard. I smelled every stick in the batch and the mother batch and the samples and I never did find one that smelled like that. I produced a new batch after that one sold out and used the same cocoa absolute in it and the customer said that one didn't smell like wet cardboard anymore. You never can tell! I used the same exact bottle of cocoa absolute and the same ingredients to produce it.

So, smell can be odd.

I think my Delicate Vanilla Bean lipbalm smells like peanut butter Smile

But I already know I have a weird nose -- I don't always smell things that other people do, and I have a horrible time describing scents!

Though now that you mention it, I can see how the lip tints are more orangey yet could be perceived as more chemically, since it's a strong citrus odor and not a really sweet odor! I didn't even realize they were cocoa-orange scent when I first got the samples, I couldn't figure out what the scent was!
